The best trash talkers in sports, from Muhammad Ali to Joe Namath to the Fab Five to Deion Sanders, have always had two qualities:
1. They're funny.
2. They can back it up on the field.
By those two standards, it appears that Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson may be developing into a great trash talker.
This week he was asked to name the toughest defense he had faced, and he answered, the San Diego Chargers. And then he added, "That was a joke."
Peterson, of course, ran for an NFL record 296 yards against the Chargers last season, and he drew a laugh with that comment. Somehow I'm guessing players on the Chargers won't find it funny.

If any actually watched that game at all they would know that Adrian had less than 50 yards in the first half... that was before Louis Castillo got injured and had to sit the rest of the game. Had Louis not gone down I am more than positive Adrian wouldn't have even broached the century mark. Not that it matters but Jamal Williams was coming off having both knees scoped at the time and was near 70% and probably played 5-7 snaps. But I guess having one hall of famer essentially out and a probowler out completely doesn't matter does it?

Does anybody want to bet against me, that AP has another injury marred season this year?

To EncLadd:
That's just about exactly what Peterson did every game. OK numbers (50 yards- not bad)in the first half, then destroy a tired defense the second half.

Typical Charger fans already coming up with excuses instead of admitting that their defense just sucked during that game or that AP is really that good. And I'm not a fan of either team......

Ha of course we sucked that game... it was embarrassing. But facts are facts. I'm sure if Steve Hutchinson was out that game and Adrian had a dismal outing Viking fans would be claiming that that was the reason why.

I'm a Chargers' fan and I'll tell you straight up that the defense sucked that day. But in all fairness, AP was also really, really good. I wish AP no ill will, but his running style will see him become the next Terrel Davis; a bright star that burned too quickly. He runs too upright, he fights too hard for extra yards, and he won't go out of bounds - all things any football fan should admire him for, but he is setting himself up for a short career.

The question that the San Diego players should ask Adrain is "Do you want to play another season after this one wiseguy?" Remember the saying "You don't want to awaken a sleeping giant." From the movie "TOra Tora Tora."

What Peterson meant to say was that Patrick Willis was the toughest team he's faced. DROY sticks the OROY for an embarrassing 3 TOTAL yards. AP was too busy crafting his next joke on this play...

Anyway, he shouldn't be making jokes when SD > MIN and LT > AP. This isn't even debateable.

What y'all need to remember is that AP is from the Big 12. More specifically OU. They run, they shoot, and they RUN. THAT'S WHAT AP's all about. So you can stop RIGHT NOW. AP will play and play and play. AIN'T HE BEAUTIFUL TO WATCH?
