Former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Michael Haynes is, like Cedric Benson, a onetime first-round draft pick who became a bust and currently is not employed by an NFL team. So Haynes has an interesting perspective on Benson, and Haynes says it's easy to figure out why Benson washed out with the Bears:"Cedric has always been lazy,'' Haynes said. ''Cedric was lazy when he first got to Chicago, and I guarantee you he is lazy now. It's the work ethic that a lot of teammates didn't like. When I was there and things didn't work out, I always showed up and I always worked hard. I tried really hard, and I never complained.''Haynes also says he objects to being compared to Benson. Haynes says that unlike Benson, he hasn't gotten into off-field trouble, and that unlike Benson, his own failure to make it in the NFL isn't a result of laziness.

As a Bears' fan, that has to be disturbing. Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith are around him enough to know his work ethic, practice habits and commitment to staying in shape. And, they continued to back him because of his draft status and investment into him? As a player, I'd be pissed. You traded Thomas Jones, your best offensive player, not the greatest, but productive He always was counted on to carry the load. He is a guy who is know as a gym rat and a good locker room presence, but it was like no matter what, Jerry Angelo, was like I am paying him 17 million no matter what the warning signs are. The team will have to deal with it.
I am not sure what they are saying at Halas Hall, but I would be pissed for trading your best offensive player for a guy that was lazy and showed you that he lacked commitment to becoming a better player

Susie-
Did you actually WATCH any of the Bears' games? Benson was horrible. Combine that, with the fact that he was an idiot off the field, and what other reasons do you need to cut the tie? Saving money was an ancillary benefit.
When he was at Texas, I spoke to one of his teammates from High School, who said that all his teammates hated him in HS, and he'd heard many teammates hated him at Texas. Stands to reason (to me, anyway) that everyone would continue to hate him if he's still being a douchebag in the pros, no?
