Ex-Panther Jason Peter Details Use of Crack, Vicodin, Ambien, Vodka, Prostitutes

After an All-American career at Nebraska, defensive lineman Jason Peter was the Carolina Panthers' first-round draft pick in 1998. But he failed in the NFL, starting just 20 games and leaving the league for good after four seasons.

Now he's written a book that details the drug abuse that derailed his career.

He says he would down 60 Vicodin and 20 sleeping pills with a bottle of vodka. Peter King of SI.com, who read an advance copy of the book, writes:

Vicodin. Ambien. Cocaine. Crack. Heroin. GHB, the date-rape drug. Lots of others I've never heard of. He's not sure if he's been in rehab six or seven times. He's blown most of the $6.5 million Carolina paid him over a disappointing, injury-filled NFL career with the Panthers. Nights and weeks with prostitutes so numerous ... well, so numerous that his Madame at a high-rolling Manhattan brothel ran out of girls for him.

Jason Peter now says he's amazed he's still alive. Reading King's account of the book, it is amazing.

Nobody wants to buy his book about how he's lived like a drug-addicted,alcohol abusing,slut. Just like nobody wanted to read O.J.Simpson's book "If I did it." Most people want to hear about how God has changed people who used to live like that,and not just read about a corrupt lifestyle.

It is sad to think that the Panthers could have taken Vonnie Holiday from UNC as their first pick in the draft, but they said he was too soft, I believe he is still in the league, and was on the all NFL Rookie team.

They say that all life, every single decision we lean toward, think of, take acion on...is based on either 'pain' or 'pleasure.' if you are a football fan, you ahve seen tape, read about how much time, staff, money is spent on looking into players past,mental states in college, police actions, etc., Just shows for all that money, attention and intentions on their part...there is part of certain peiople that can not be seen, predicted, or sadly...stopped. Now, this still young man will have to find, create a new identity after 10-15 years of his life, being in a uniform as a player. So he gave his body to Nebraska for fame, money, a free ride $$ through a quality school program, that he got later, let's see now if he went to class at all...?

Its awfully easy for some a hole sitting at his/her desk to sit there and spew such idiotic garbage about someone they have never met just because they watch football on TV once in a while. What you dont know is that his constant injuries and team compliance led him down the path of painkillers(Oxycontin etc. which are a huge problem in the NFL and elsewhere) abused them and it led to other ways to numb pain. He told his story on Bryant Gumbel's HBO show over two years ago and has been clean since then. He is actually working in LA and has a good job. He has turned his life around. I happen to have met him, and can tell you he is an intelligent man who has made some unintelligent decisions. He would be the first to tell you that, and how embarrased he is to have brought this kind of shame to those who cared about him. Everybody deserves a second chance "jan" you armchair jackass.

some people really piss me off! I can only say that you are all really ignorant. how can you coment on someones addictions when you know nothing about the horrifying effects of addiction. I am a recovering herion addict, so I can relate to his problems. People who have never dealt with addiction have no place commenting on something they know nothing about. Nobody sets out to become addicted to anything, but if you are niave and easily minipulated addiction can sneek up on you and take you to places where you neither belong or want to be. When you become addicted to opiates you go through a series of chemical changes in the pleasure elite center of your brain. Your body stops producing the chemicals (seritonin,etc.).When this happens you can only be happy by stimulating brain whith chemicals. This can lead you down roads you never knew or cared to know. Alot of times this process begins whith what seems like a safe and normal prescription from your trusted Doc.

The usual toxic dose of Tylenol (acetominophen) is 7 grams, causing irreversible liver damage. Each Vicodin has 500 mg. (0.5 grams) of acetominophen combined with hydrocodone. We are being asked to believe that he ingested 30 grams of acetominophen (30 X 0.5)at a time without permanent sequelae, in addition to alcohol and sleepers (sedative/hypnotics). Sorry, but I have to raise the bull**** flag on his story.

Come on now, 60 Vicodin tablets contain a total of 30 grams of Tylenol (acetominophen) in addition to hydrocodone. The usual toxic dose of Tylenol for an adult is 7 grams if taken all at one time. We are expected to believe that he took that much (in addition to alcohol and sedative/hypnotics) without hepatic toxicity? I have to raise the bull**** flag on his little story.
