So maybe the Vikings inability to land a defensive end in free agency ended up being a good thing.According to ESPN.com, NFL.com and the Star-Tribune, the Chiefs agreed on Tuesday night to accept the Vikings offer of its first-round pick and the first of its two third-round picks in exchange for All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen. The Star-Tribune is reporting that there is the possibility of another later pick being included as well.
The trade helps the Chiefs move on in their rebuilding plans. It gives Minnesota the vital piece to fix the most gaping hole in a pretty decent defense. Offensive coordinators should have nightmares trying to figure out how to adequately block Allen and Kevin Williams on passing downs (while also worrying about Pat Williams caving in the middle of the line with his massive body). Allen will give Minnesota the ability to rely less on blitzing next year, which will help what's a pretty mediocre secondary.
The big question with Allen is whether he's gotten his drinking under control. He's been charged with three DUIs in the past four years, but the Vikings believe that he's put that behind him. Of course, the trade also shows that character concerns are relative--it all depends on how good the player is.

Awesome. I'm pumped.
I read some where that after Allen's 2nd DUI his grandfather called him up and chewed him out, and that Allen hasn't has a drink since.
I'm not sure how reliable the source was (I don't remember where I read it) but I certainly do hope that the drinking problems are a thing of the past.
Minnesota will win the NFC North this year.

Pretty inspiring story about Allen's grandfather calling him up and chewing him out after his 2nd DUI -except where was his grandfather when Allen was in high school and had a scholarship to a D1 school, got in trouble and lost that opportunity. Or where was the old dude when Allen got a 2nd D1 scholarship, got in trouble with the law and lost that D1 opportunity. Where was the family patriarc when Allen took a scholarship at D2 Idaho State, got in trouble with the law and was listed a morally questionable for the draft (ever wonder why someone with Allen's talent was playing D2?!) Where was the stately family leader when Allen got his 1st DUI in KC? Sounds like an "Urban Myth" story to help with Allen's position with the Vikings. In closing, Allen's wonderful old grandfather is probably in the restaurant/bar in KC that Allen just opened and he is thinking "Thank God Jared got out of KC before his bar got him into trouble." Can you imagine someone with 2 DUIs in KC opening his own bar?!!! Good luck Vikings.... by the way , they won't release what type of trouble he was in while in High School or in college but, I bet alcohol had something to do with it.
