Peter King drops an intriguing nugget into his Monday Morning Quarterback column today:I think, Giant beat writers, you might sniff around this one: New Orleans is not through trying to acquire Jeremy Shockey.Although I would add that Saints beat writers -- not to mention, you know, King himself -- ought to be sniffing around as well, the idea that the Giants will trade Jeremy Shockey and that the Saints are the most likely destination has been around for most of the NFL off-season and is not going away.
For the Giants, it makes sense because they didn't seem to miss Shockey late in the season when he broke his leg and was replaced by rookie Kevin Boss. They did, after all, win the Super Bowl without Shockey and with Boss making some big plays down the stretch. That doesn't mean Boss is as good as Shockey, but it could mean that he will be some day, and he's certainly cheaper.
For the Saints it makes a little bit less sense, seeing as they re-signed both of last year's tight ends, Billy Miller and Eric Johnson. But Shockey provides a big-play threat that Miller and Johnson don't, and if the Saints think he'd be a good fit in their passing game, it would be tempting to trade for him.
My best guess is that Shockey will be a Giant in 2008. But just because the Giants say he's coming back doesn't mean he will.

shockey is so "overrated" the guy is another k johnson. just give him the dam ball!and thats the prob. with him out everyone got the dam ball and Eli didnt look like such a bust. forcing shockey the ball is why the O su-ked for most of the year. id say by by the shockey and use the draft pick on a shut down corner.

If this move happens for the Saints, I expect it to be like the rest of their moves this off season: low risk/high reward. I don't see them giving up a particularly high pick this year (maybe something higher next year depending on how well Shockey played for them like the Vilma trade).
Shockey is regardes as a malcontent coming off a serious injury. That said, he still has the potential to be a great football player. I think the only way this trade happens is if the Giants are ready to dump him for less because of his attitude and the injury.
Plus you can make big moves like trading Pro Bowl TE's when you just won the Super Bowl and you're more likely to get the benefit of the doubt from fans and media.

"Big-play threat?" Shockey has NEVER been a big-play threat...he's too slow to get deep or burn anyone after the catch...he's also too focused on delivering the big hit on the tackler than he is on making a move to get more yardage. He might be considered an enforcer, I'll give him that...but as far as skills, he's more of a big MOUTH threat than he is a big play threat.

Addition by subtraction: Shockey goes down injured, Eli starts to light it up and never stops. Coincidence?
