Here's Arizona Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson pulling off one of the most impressive athletic feats you'll ever see, taking a couple of steps and then jumping 66 inches vertically:
That jump has become the stuff of YouTube legend, and it was nominated in the sports category at the YouTube Awards. But it lost out to a video in which a skateboarder pops a lot of balloons. In my view, the skateboarding video is obviously inferior, although maybe that says more about me than it does about the videos in question. The skateboarding video is after the jump.
And here's the YouTube Award-winning sports video, entitled "Balloon Bowl":

the skateboard video is one of the most douchebaggedness filled things I have ever seen. How it beat out the 66inch leap I can't fathom ...douchebagged!

Important thing to remember: the contest measured videos, not athletic accomplishments.
The skateboarding video was amazing for amateur stuff. Good visual variety, beautiful subject matter, just generally well done.
Adrian Wilson's leap was characterized by some scrawny white dude screaming "A-DUB! A-DUB!" over otherwise terrible quality footage. (Full disclosure: I am a skinny white dude who attended A-DUB's alma mater. Go Wolfpack!)
If this was an athletics competition, there's a clear and uncontested winner. It's not. And while it's not exactly a film-making competition, it's closer to that than it is a track meet.
The better entry won.

First off, I am not surprised at all that YOU bothered writing this. (See: http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/06/11/please-ioc-dont-inflict-skateboarding-on-us/3#comments)
Secondly, please refer to comment #2. Its a video contest. If Adrian Wilson hadn't done something seemingly impossible to the average person, the video would have just been another waste of time on youtube. The second video clearly took a lot more thought, planning, and overall effort. We're not comparing the skateboarder's skills vs. the football player's skills. We're comparing the complete package that is the video. The Adrian Wilson video looks like it was shot with a cell phone camera. Not to mention, the color and movement in the second video held my 2 year old cousin's attention.
Lastly, get over it. You're just angry that a skateboarder beat someone who plays a.. what would you call it? Oh yeah, a "better sport".

That Wilson video is amazing. It's the best sports related video on YouTube by far. I've never seen anything like it.
