Dunta Robinson: 'I'm Thinking I'm Probably Playing 10-12 Games Next Season'

After Texans cornerback, Dunta Robinson tore both his ACL and hamstring in November of last season, the most optimistic people didn't think he could be back until December 2008. Less optimistic people had Robinson sitting out for all of 2008 or never coming back at all.

And so, accordingly, many people have the Texans picking cornerback with the 18th spot of the draft, figuring that Robinson won't be playing much next year.

Well, apparently Robinson has heard all the talk, and he isn't having it:
I'm thinking I'm probably playing 10-12 games next season. I'll probably start the year off on Physically Unable to Perform (list) and I think that's either 4-6 games that I'll be out, and I'll be back. I'll be back way ahead of schedule.

Sorry to disappoint the people that thought I was going to be out for a year, year and a half – that's not going to happen. Dunta Robinson will play in 2008.
Either one of Robinson's injuries are pretty devastating for a cornerback, but coming back that quickly from both? If he ends up playing at a high level for 10-12 games in 2008, it will be the biggest comeback from injury in NFL history. Really, I can't think of a bigger one. Actually, I believe if he plays at a high level after the seriousness of his injuries ever again, that is a remarkable achievement.

Robinson traditionally has been one of the fittest players on the team, so I suppose if it can be done, he can do it. There really isn't much history as a guide with this combination of injuries.

Though the local paper has the Texans inked to take cornerback at the 18th spot in the draft, the Texans have been signaling that this is not necessarily the case, that they believe that there is value lower in the draft for that position.

Whatever they end up doing, they need to something to fix that secondary because it has been completely unwatchable since 2004, when it was merely awful and not fantastically catastrophic. Robinson has been one of the few bright spots on that Texans defense, and Texans fans can only wish him their best.
