First I want to say thank you to the Houston Texans website staff for being blog-friendly and fixing their embeds so they don't autoplay. The above HoustonTexans.com video is of Texans secondary coach, Jon Hoke talking about the secondary players in this year's draft, and what the Texans are looking for when scouting free agents and potential draft picks. If you just want to read the interview, check out this link.
Reports say that the Texans are looking in free agency at Dallas CB Jacques Reeves and Dolphins Rex Hadnot as a center/guard. I don't believe taking Reeves would preclude getting a cornerback in the draft because the Texans need tons of secondary help.
The Houston Chronicle's John McClain still believes that the Texans are going to pick cornerback first as greatest need, but at least from what Hoke says publicly above, they think the draft is pretty deep at this position. I'm not a big fan of reaching for need, and the three greatest needs as listed by McClain are cornerback, running back and left tackle.
The Texans have a ton of needs, including on their defensive line, though fans would probably not be happy with yet another defensive line pick.
He notes in that article:
Yes, we'd love to see Rashard Mendenhall, Jonathan Stewart or Felix Jones in the Texans' backfield. But with Ahman Green, Ron Dayne, Darius Walker and Chris Taylor competing for three positions, they're not destitute.Hmmm, two old guys that can't stay healthy, one young small undrafted guy, and one young undrafted guy coming off of injury. Sounds pretty destitute to me. The way you know that you are destitute at a position is whether you can think of any teams who would want to swap their guys for yours.
That being said, the success of this Texans offseason is to see if the they can get a secondary that rises to even being average. They were 1-5 in division last year, and a large part of that is a horrible Texans secondary that made Kerry Collins and Vince Young look good, struggled against the Jags tall receivers, and got destroyed by Colts QB Peyton Manning twice a year.
Personally, I think the Texans will need a miracle to fix the secondary. They had to play very simple last year due to multiple injuries, and experienced, good free agents are nearly impossible to pick up. I wish the Texans good luck, and hope nothing in the offseason is like offering a second and third round pick for Phillip Buchanon.

Maybe it would be smarter to fix the offensive line, so the offense can stay on the field longer and not depend on a depleted defense. We could go for defensive CB and FS in the 4th and 5h after a LT and RB. If we trade Sage, we need to protect the Schaub. I know most bloggers all go for defense first, but as a war general said, the best defense is a good offense. It's time Houston addressed the offense.

I can't believe I apologized. I believe you had the Texans blog in the Houston Chronicle. I came across your blog when I first started blogging. A public blog, somewhat of a free for all. Let loose and have fun. Then came Hilton. For some bizzare reason, I apologized for comments I made on your blog on his blog. Just trying to be nice. That's it. My comments were nothing more than light hearted fun. Based on some of the rude, garbage I read on various blogs, especially the Houston Chronicle, my comments were harmless.
My point. The Houston Texans organization. When contacting them through E-mail regarding accessing their website and the resulting problems. The person that responded basically laughed off my comment. So, I think the "shut out" is more than technical.
Unbelievably rude. Life is funny. The smallest things can affect an organization, negatively. Arrogance is one of them. No more watching or supporting the Houston Texans, I'll go the way of college football.
Why is it that I get the sneaking suspicion that the Houston Texans will always be an organization that never makes it to the top?
Wow! Your blog sure seems busy.

@KP
Can't argue for the "organization" nor your apparent snub. Possibly, the way you asked and not the intended question?
I hope your "blogging" is a huge success but, I'm guessing it's not a Texans blog. I doubt you've put your time and energy writing about the HOUSTON TEXANS as Steph has! With objectivity and research, she has had a very insightful look and informative view of the HOUSTON TEXANS! To "us" fans of the home team, we appreciate her work!!
The chron.com blogs are a free-for-all with many agenda's and views, not necessarily about the HOUSTON TEXANS and all about site hit's. I take it your "snub" by the Texans, your feeling's for the chron.com, and your attempt at blogging, have led to your questioning of the number of "post" here? I guess having a thorough view leave some questions unnecessary. I could be wrong...
Good luck with your college blogging and hope it works for you!
Eric
