Eagles, Asante Samuel Have Deal in Place?

The NFL free agency sweepstakes is less than 12 hours old, but Comcast SportsNet's Derrick Gunn is reporting that the Eagles already have a deal in place with Patriots free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel.

No formal announcement has been made, but the Eagles' official web site has shut down because it was overloaded with traffic from running a photo of Samuel and an announcement that he will meet with the Philadelphia media this afternoon.

Samuel is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, and he is expected to get a contract somewhere in the neighborhood of the seven-year, $64 million deal that Nate Clements received with the 49ers last year. Giving a free agent that much money would run counter to the way the Eagles usually do things, but Samuel might be too good a player to pass up.

Other teams that might be interested in Samuel include the Jets, whose coach, Eric Mangini, previously worked with Samuel in New England; the Saints, who have a desperate need for cornerbacks; and the Buccaneers, who have a ton of cap room available.

don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out oh yes let it you will be just like the rest of the players in the NFL that leave a team they played well on and then do nothing or little if anything He did do good in NE but was it the system??? could be time will tell i am betting he will be a flop

a ball right thru his hands with about 1:20 left in the superbowl which would have sealed the win for the patriots any cb in the NFL would have caught that but his big head left a hole in his hands the giants went all over him t in the SB see ya bye bye go get the money in 2 years you will be cut and looking and begging a team like the patriots to sign you back

Knew it was just a matter of time before some Patriot fan like Ken pulls out the "I know more about football than you can ever hope to" card. Kinda has that down to the last bullet in the gun feel to it. Just bustin on ya Kenny. Don't take it personal. You've been more fortunate than most. Veteran fans in Green Bay, Pittsburgh, San Fran and Dallas know what it's like to watch that window close. As your dynasty comes to an end try and accept it with some dignity and grace.

amazing that ken knows so much yet isn't a general manager in the league? hmmm, maybe the fact the pats are CHEATERS really told us why they won those bowls in the first place.
