Remember Josh Booty? Sure you do. He was America's best high school athlete in 1994, signed a huge contract with the Florida Marlins as a teenager, quit baseball to play quarterback at LSU, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2001, and was last seen in the Raiders' 2007 minicamps. And now things apparently aren't going real well for him. TMZ reports:
Booty was arrested early this morning for DUI -- and was so uncooperative he had to be tased!Booty's brother, former USC quarterback John David Booty, is expected to be selected in this year's NFL draft.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Booty was taken to the Orange County Jail, where he was booked -- and that's when he went ballistic.
O.C. Sheriff's spokesperson Jim Amormino tell TMZ, "Booty was belligerent and uncooperative." Amormino says his deputies used a taser -- "less than lethal force" -- to contain him.
After being tased, Josh fell to the ground, hitting his head on the floor and cracking it open. He was taken to a hospital where he was stitched up.

I don't care what his behavior was. No one should ever be tased. It has caused too many unnecessary deaths including one at the Toronto airport. You could be next.
Police officers are trained in how to properly restrain an abusive drunk or someone who has simply
"lost it" The cops are taking the easy way out.
One woman who was stopped by the police on a highway was surrounded by 3 police officers and tased so badly she has permanent brain damamge and can't walk. A video showed them tasing her after she hit the ground and was incapcitated.
What is this world coming to. No one is safe from "legalized deadly force" like tasers. You could be next.
They need to be outlawed.
You could be next.

Cops use the tasers because cops now days have no balls! they also use them just because someone does not agree with them or if walking away in a crowd and does not hear the cop and they will taser you. waiting for the day one makes that mistake with me or someone I care about. Cops have gone nuts and are more each day showing what bullies they were growing up.

nickstoli & Lil Gib: Have to disagree with you both. No police officer should have to risk injury by engaging in a physical confrontation with a drunk & disorderly subject. So, it's not really a lack of "balls," it's more the presense of brains. And nick, the deaths seen after the use of the taser in the vast majority of cases, are due to a pre-existing conditions. Let's try this: when a police officer goes to arrest you, don't fight, don't physically challenge him, don't turn and walk away, do what he says, get arrested, and then get your high priced attorney and dispute your guilt in the courtroom, rather than on the side of the road. And please don't bring up using fur lined handcuffs so the poor suspect doesn't get his wrist hurt :(
I don't condone a police officer using a taser if the suspect were to say, hi officer, but, any resistance where there's going to be a physical confrontation = TASER! Again, officer's should not have to risk injury dealing with an uncooperative a-hole. Even drunk people no right from wrong, but, they let their liquid courage get the best of them. No tissues here for bleeding hearts...the problem in todays society is not the cops, but, rather people who have no respect and challenge authority on the streets and even in our classrooms as children.

NY Fan your arguement about a pre-existing is flawed as here in SC we have a man being charged with involuntary manslaughter because he ran from a cop. The cop had a heart attack due to the stress of the chase. Obviously he had a pre-existing medical problem but they are charging the citizen. Same, same. An 89 year old women in Rock Hill was tazed in the head. That shows a lot of "brains" by the cops. Less than half of them are in the job for the right reasons. Most are there for the power trip. Wasn't there a time when using a weapon (tazer) against an unarmed person called excessive force?

Bullcr@p-If you don't want to get tased, then do what the cops tell you to do. If you fight, then you deserve what you get. Booty is probably 6'4"-6'5" and 230-250 lbs, and I'm sure was a handful when he was belligerent. Stop supporting the criminals.

A 67 year old woman was tased in California whe she refused to get outt of her car when told to by a plain clothes cop who suspected that the car was stolen. The cop never showed any identification and she was the one fearing for her life. Some cops are good and well intentioned. Others clearly love the power trip. A 16 year old mentally disturbed girl was shot and killed by police in the OC for threatening them with a butter knife. Where was their taser, and the worst thing is that these two goofs are back on patrol.
Being a cop is a license to kill for alot of creeps and the authorities do very little because they do not want to hurt the image or morale.
My own car was rearend by a police chiefs drunk son who drove off from the accident. When I provided the license plate number to the poice and they found out nit was their bobb's car. They lied to me and said that it was the wrong plate number and that I should just report it to my insurance company. I found the chiefs house and took a picture of their damaged vehicle in the garage with that plate number on and turned it over to the DA, he told me that it was civil and take it to my insurance company. They cover their own asses well don't they. Except for a few friends that are cops that I know well, I dont trust many police.
The most biggoted person I ever met is a police sargeant in LA county. He used to brag about beating up gays and minorities when he was in HS.
Sorry, but I have little faith in police.
When my wife was in a cross walk accident and the driver sped away, two bikers helped her, one rendered first aid, the other followed and captured the illegal alien who ran her over. The cops hassled the bikers for getting involved. The judge released the guy on his own reconizance from jail, he never showed up at court for the hearings after that.
Yeah, tell me how great our legal system and cops are.
When you need help, call a biker, at least you get a real human being to respond.

I watched Josh play in high school at Evangel, back when I attended First Assembly of God in Shreveport. I had hoped Josh would put God first and sports second, but the reason I left that church in 1997 was because sports always came first, before God. It is not only Josh's story, but the stories of many of their players that have put sports on the altar of their hearts where God belongs, which is the reason I left that church. What you sow, so shall you reap. I continue to pray for the Booty family and for the kids at Evangel and at First Assembly (now Shreveport Community Church) but I had to leave the place because they had stopped worshipping Jesus and worshipped sports instead.
