Notes on a trip to the Super Bowl.Super Bowl XLII was a close, hard-fought game that went down to the wire, the kind of game where one play can make all the difference.
That makes it the kind of game where one bad call by the officials can make all the difference. But unlike many big games of this NFL season, people aren't talking about the officials today. Referee Mike Carey and his crew had a good game, and they deserve a lot of credit today.
Yes, some will nitpick individual calls. Giants receiver Amani Toomer maybe should have been called for offensive pass interference on his 38-yard catch in the second quarter. The Patriots shouldn't have had to challenge the Giants' 12 men on the field penalty; that was a call that the official on the sideline should have seen. Carey seemed awfully quick on the draw to call a delay of game penalty against the Giants.
But mentioning those really is picking nits. Carey and his crew should be commended on a great game.

I agree with the praise due the referees for the Super Bowl game yesterday. It is impossible to call a perfect game.....impossible, yet yesterday's officials did a terrific job. Well done Carey.

Am i the only one who thinks the 12th man on the field was a bullshit call..?? why was it called when it didnt effect anything? All we have to do is watch either sideline and throw a flag when the coaches or players step on the field.. Reaaly important dont you think!

Gee frank didn't do anything except take a 4th and convert it to a first down that sure didn't effect anything.

If a coach can throw a red flag and have penalty added to the game after the play happened why not just have every play under review before the next snap to be sure everything is not over looked. Refs are human and do, have made an will continue to make mistakes. As for the 12th man on the field he had no impact on the play and was hald a stride from technically being off. If this wasnot called there would have not been a 17-14 score but a probably a 10-7. All the same great job GIANTS, Conklin, Manning etc.. - go cry in your chowder you bunch of cheaters.

The call I didn't like was when they penalized the Giants on the fumble. The Giants were trying to knock the ball out of bounds, like they really would have batted it forward towards several Pats.
Oh well, alls well that ends well.

Hey cunningham,
I haven't seen anyone call the Officials heroes....No one has mentioned Race either (except you, called it color...says all that needs to be said of you).
All we said is they did their JOB very well...You can complement people on a Job well done you know!
Funny that you had no problem with the Post above calling Feagles a Hero for no particular reason.

It's illegal to bat the ball out of bounds intentionally so either way it should have been a penalty.

How can a 12th man call be challenged, but a field gaol is not reviewable. The NFL needs to address these issues that have come up this year.
Id we really want to start quoting the rules Why don't they enforce when your forward momentum is stopped the play is over and that you not allowed to push a offensive player to gather move years.

As for the rules, First off, you're not allowed to bat a ball foward thats on the ground that you fumbled. 2) 12 men on the field / in the huddle is illegal. 3) If I remember right, you can try and push the "Pile" foward but cannot push/pull your teammate foward with your hands on him. It was one of the best officated games i've seen in a while, even though, being a Pats fan, I wish he would of "Protected" Eli and had blown the whistle before he broke out of the grasp lol. Congrats Giants
