A look at the 2007 junior class as players decide whether to enter the 2008 NFL draft.I don't think Orlando Scandrick, the Boise State cornerback who said this week that he's leaving school for the NFL draft, is going to be a high pick. And I think he could improve his stock with a good senior year.
But I have mixed feelings about whether he made a bad decision, and the reason is that he seems to understand that he's not necessarily a sure thing. His agent, to his credit, leveled with him:
If Scandrick understands that he could be a sixth or seventh-round pick and is willing to leave school knowing that, well, I guess I say go for it. But I still think he's selling himself short because another solid year of college would improve his stock.Joe Linta, Scandrick's agent, said he told Scandrick to be prepared to be selected in the sixth or seventh round. Linta said he asked Scandrick if he would be comfortable with being picked that late.
"I wanted him to assume the worst," Linta said. "I did not advise him to come out and I did not advise him to return to school. I was neutral. I wanted him to make sure he was comfortable with his decision."
