A look at the 2007 junior class as players decide whether to enter the 2008 NFL draft.
North Carolina State safety DaJuan Morgan, who today announced that he's turning pro, doesn't have any illusions about being a Top 10 pick. He understands that he's not the top safety in this year's draft (he's not even close to Miami's Kenny Phillips), but he says that if he works hard between now and the scouting combine, he thinks he might be able to get into the second round.
With that attitude, I say, more power to him. I don't think he really will get into the second -- I think third or fourth would be more likely -- but Morgan is doing all the right things to show that he's taking his NFL career seriously. He's already said he will retain agent Ben Dogra of CAA Sports, and he has already joined up with the Athletes' Performance Institute, where he'll do a similar off-season workout program to the one another North Carolina State junior who left school early, Mario Williams of the Houston Texans, did before Williams went first overall in the 2006 draft.
Too many juniors who leave school early do so without both eyes open. That's not the case with Morgan. He knows he has a lot of work to do to prove to NFL teams that he's ready for the next level, and he says he's prepared to do that work. That means he's making the right decision by turning pro.
