The NFL's decision to put Saturday night's Patriots-Giants game on NBC and CBS in addition to NFL Network paid off to the tune of 34.5 million viewers, the NFL said today. That makes Patriots-Giants the most-watched television program of the current TV season, bumping off this year's Patriots-Colts game, which had been the most-watched program. (Patriots-Steelers is third, Patriots-Cowboys is fourth, and the season premiere of CSI is fifth.)
The game did a stunning 75 share in Boston. To put that in perspective, Game 3 of the World Series did a 71 share in Boston this year.
Sports Media Watch has information about the specific numbers for the two over-the-air networks.

So, the brilliance of this all - doesn't it prove the NFL Networks's point? Their content is so deserving of being available to all viewers that they were virtually given a legal injunction forcing them to open their airwaves -- and their game became the most watched program of the current season.... HELLO!

The only thing stopping the NFL Network from being on more cable companies is their own greed. Why should everybody pay year round for what amounts to a few days of programming. The NFL wants the fees from being on basic cable and then being able to charge big ad rates for the games. God forbid anyone get in the way of them making another billion dollars. This is how this whole mess will end the NFL and cable companies will become partners
and together they can screw the fan.

If the Pats and Colts meet in the AFC Championship Game in Foxboro on January 20th, that game will brake records too...
