ESPN is reporting that one of its employees, Bill Parcells, has declined an opportunity to join the Atlanta Falcons as a vice president in charge of football operations.
The reason? According to ESPN, Parcells wants to weigh an offer to take over the front office of the Miami Dolphins.
This leaves the Falcons in a rough position. General manager Rich McKay is likely gone -- it's hard to imagine he would come back after this. So who's running things? Who knows?
If there's anything we've learned about Parcells during his more than two decades as one of the highest-profile figures in the NFL, it's that he loves being the center of attention at this time of year. He frequently allows his name to surface in various searches, makes owners believe he's going to work with them, and then walks away. Now he seems to have done it to Falcons owner Arthur Blank. Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga, you may be next.
UPDATE: Via the team's web site, Blank has issued a brief statement.

Worth noting that if Parcells joins the Dolphins, he will be the director of football operations, not the GM or head coach. As such, he will be competing with his son-in-law, Scott Pioli, and his famous apprentice, Bill Belichick.

Turning down the Falcons job is just the latest chapter of the history of Parcells which is rife with accepting jobs "in principle" and then changing his mind at the last moment. He agrees to take a position and those teams pass on other viable candidates and are left in the lurch as a result. He is either flakey, indecsive, deceitful or dishonest...take your choice. He may actually enjoy the game he is playing and craves the attention. I recall a year in which he played his flip flop game on different coaching jobs and diverted all the attention away from the Super Bowl which was his main purpose. He is a man whose word cannot be trusted.

Ha Ha Ha - Love that - Tuna and Dolphins go well together. Dolphins is a much more famous franchise than the Falcons,,,who cares if he does a good job for falcons, if he resurects the fins, then that would look better on his resume,,PLUS, dolphins are rock bottom,,no way they could suck that much next year, so his odds of showing favorable results are much much better

Well that was the 3rd and final strike (death blow really) Bill Parcells was the ONLY Guy who could have fixed the Falcons. So Wayne is going to buy himself a superbowl THEN he'll sell the fins. Meanwhile, the Falcons will be even worse than they are now if that's possible. Letting Parcells and so many coaches get away means Atlanta will never have a real fanbase. Blank would be better off selling the Falcons and starting over from scratch !!!
