Dallas cornerback Terence Newman never got a chance to get his $30,000 worth of hits in on Detroit quarterback Jon Kitna. Teammate DeMarcus Ware is another story, however. The usually mild-mannered outside linebacker introduced Kitna to the Field Turf last Sunday on a play that can kindly be described as unnecessary roughness.
In the week leading up to the game, the league warned Newman that it doesn't condone crippling players (even Jon Kitna), so it should come as no surprise that Ware is now $12,500 lighter in the wallet.
The play for which Ware was fined on Sunday came with 3:29 remaining in the first quarter, when he lifted Kitna and then drove him into the turf at Ford Field after a 10-yard completion on a third-and-8 situation. Ware was flagged for a personal foul ... moving the ball to the Dallas 13.And yet, the Lions still managed to find a way to lose. Don't worry, though; Kitna still thinks Detroit can reach 10 wins ... even though they're 6-7 with just three weeks to go in the season.

I'm glad the Pats didn't sink to the level of "America's Team" after the Steelers talked smack about them.
