Okay, it sounds like Jason Whitlock is due a drug test. The cuddly Kansas City Star columnist who, when not taking shots at Mike Lupica, is usually gunning with both barrels at the hometown Chiefs, shows a kinder, gentler side in Saturday's edition: Now that there is a consensus building that King Carl must be dethroned, let me lend my voice to the people defending Herm Edwards. This city has not been fair to Herm.Alright, maybe he's not completely kinder and gentler -- he's still taking shots at Chiefs' president Carl Peterson, and I'm sure if given the chance, he'd give Priest Holmes the business too.
Anyway, Whitlock makes the case that Herm's "run-and-punt offense" needs more time -- specifically four years -- before the torch and pitchfork crowd should swing into action.
His resume demands that. The fact that he backed this franchise into the playoffs last season dictates that we remain patient. The problems he inherited thanks to the staleness of Peterson's personnel department and coaching-staff leftovers make a compelling case to stick with Herm for at least two more years.I like Whitlock and I like Edwards, but I can't envision a scenario -- save the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl this year -- where it makes sense to keep Edwards around for another two. While he might be swell at giving motivational speeches, he's atrocious at managing the clock and timeouts, which, as you might've noticed, is kind of important.
If the goal is to back into the playoffs every other season and then promptly lose in the first round, then, yeah, Herm's the guy. But if the Chiefs are looking for something more than that, it'll have to be with someone else. I'm not advocating Herm should be canned at the end of the season, but if the right head coach should become available, it wouldn't be a completely ridiculous notion to go in that direction.

Herman is not the guy to take Chiefs to super bowl and win. So keeping him one or 2 more years is a waste. His track record of taking a team down hill mirrors his records with the Jets.
How bad was Cunningham's record this second year as head coach when Peterson canned him?
If Herman stays another year, let him clean the coaching staff's house and start over. That way we will see how unprepared as a head coach Herman is.
This is sad.

I disagree with jason whitlock Herman Edward needs to be fired to day not tomorrow he does not have management brain he showed many times this year they went to play off last year with a luck then what did happen in play offs did not get a single first down until 3rd quarter .
If he stays another year I gurantee all seates are going to be empty I do not think hunts family wants that happen .

People don't seem to realize how much of this team was fallig apart when Edwards took over. The Chiefs did not draft players for the future under Vermeil because they were trying to shoot for the Super Bowl THEN. Vermeil knew he was going to be retired before any drafted players were of any use, so he didn't bother with them.
Edwards inherited one of the leagues worst defenses and an offense that would lose 2 pro bowl linemen, their pro bowl QB and their offensive coordinator.
He is essentially rebuilding the team from the ground up.

Hope Herm gets a 5 year deal so that I won't have to worry about the Chiefs being competitive for another half decade. This guy would have trouble coaching a junior high team. I suspect the suicide rate is climbing in KC between the Chiefs and Royals, and things look to be getting worse.

Well Denver 41 and KC 7. Sure sounds like Herman needs another two years. I imagine the other 31 NFL teams support that. Nothing in Herman's resume suggests he deserves another 2 years. He does not have the coaching experience to solve the Chiefs problems. He does not know the Xs abd Os.

I agree that Herm Edwards is not the man for the Chiefs. But I think the time has come to look even hire in the organization. There have been some good and bad moves made but I think it might be time for some major changes at all levels!!

I think the Hunt family needs to step in and say goodbye to Carl Peterson and Herm, they have wore their welcome out. After them two are gone they need to beg for Cowher to come back into the NFL and coach the Chiefs or someone that actually shows some emotion. Solari and Dick Curl are a joke and are clueless when it comes to coaching a quarterback and running an offense, this year just proves it. If the Chiefs could replace their 2 corners, that have lost their touch and get burned way too often with 2 younger and more athletic corners with speed, then the defense would already be improved. They need to sign Allen to a big contract and find his twin brother out there somewhere to put on the other end, or maybe if Justin Smith was a few years younger he would fit in just fine. And they still cannot find a good DT, if we had a couple of good DT's then Allen would have twice as many sacks as he already has. The linebackers are good, too bad we didn't get Edwards back about 4 years ago. I hope there is alot of empty seats this last home game and it opens the eyes of the Hunt family, because it is time to clean house starting with King Carl!!!!
