There's been a lot of debate about whether Anthony Smith is a intense, hothead who channels that aggression into strong play on the field, or if he's simply an idiot. After today, the evidence is pointing really strongly toward him being an idiot.
The Patriots are a team that spends massive amounts of energy to try to find the smallest slight to motivate them for that week's game. In fact there have been times when the coaching staff has made up quotes from the opposing team to get the Pats fired up.
This week that won't be a problem.
"We're going to win,'' Smith said today after practice. "Yeah, I can guarantee a win.''Maybe you could argue that the Patriots were going to be fired up already. But even if the grizzly bear was hungry it still makes no sense to poke it with a stick.
Smith kept on poking.
"I think we were facing great receivers last week too and we shut them down,'' Smith said. "Those three guys, I don't think it gets much better than Cincinnati's corps of receivers. We've already seen the best."Great. Just what the Steelers needed, a fired-up Randy Moss. Moss is better off left alone in hopes that he'll sleepwalk his way through some of his routes.

It's stupid to even report these so-called guarantees. Now if the player offers to contribute all of his remaining salary to charity if his team loses, then you have something. But until then, the player is just babbling and no one should bother reporting about it.

You hear alot of trash talking like that come back to bite someone in the ass, but you very rarely hear it coming out the way it was intended. Smith could come out looking like a profit, or just a loud-mouthed idiot. I'm going to vote him to be "The Idiot".

Patriots are media created over-rated team. They play in one of the weakest divisions in the history of football and run up scores against weak teams and their style of play is greatly helped by the stupid nfl rules that do not allow receivers to be touched. Do not even mention them with the all-time great teams. Defense is old and slow - not even in top 5 in league

Larry is a jealous whiner that probably has a LOSER team as his favorite. If you check the schedule a little closer you'll notice that the Patriots have played teams outside of their division, and that the "stupid NFL rules" apply to ALL of the teams.

Clearly the cheaters are losing steam. Good luck throwing the ball 50 times in terrible conditions with absolutely no running game. Brady will self-destruct and Moss will fake injury.
This team was made for the regular season, not for Winter football.
Can someone please check on Jr.Seau's ankles after that McGahee run?

----- Smith, Who?? A third stringer that is in due to injuries. PERFECT!! The GUARANTEE is in--for the Pats!! Thanks Smitty, you DOPE !!
These schmoes that talk about the Pats slowing down should read some of the news on Pittsburgh. Willie Parker fumbled 4 times but those refs with "those stupid rules" bailed his ass out by calling 2 of them as down. The Pats like takeaways--ask Ed Reed!! They played in the "swamp in Pittsburg" against Miami--3 points in the last seconds against an 0-10 team--powerhouse football.
It may not rain in Foxboro and the field will be real, not slapped over old grass.
Welcome to Foxboro. Your "Guarantee"d ticket will be punched!!

Some individuals seek attention simply because they are not able to gain it through their achievements on the field, in the classroom or wherever. They view attention as an award, whether it is positive or negative attention. Anthony Smith is a classic case. He was in the middle of the pack when drafted and remains in the middle of the pack when it comes to his defensive skills. So what does he do? He makes a ridiculous statement and gets the attention he seeks. He doesn't give any thought to the fact that his antics will serve as a terrific motivation tool for the Patriots. It is difficult to get up for every game.
Sure, when he is asked about it, he'll tell us thet it was his way of motivating the Steelers. That is if the Steelers lose. If they win, he'll remind everyone that "I told you".

Middle of the pack, Dennis? I think Anthony Smith openning his mouth is stupid, but to call him a middle of the pack pick is absurd. He was a 3rd rounder, meaning that he was in the top 100 picks of the draft. Since every D-1A roster carries over 100 guys, we can assume that around 25 were eligible for the draft. There are 117 D-1A programs, meaning that there were around 3000 draft eligible players just from D-1A. I'm not including 1AA, and D-2, D-3, NAIA, etc. So he was in the top 3% of guys eligible. That may not sound like much to you, as you are obviously such an accomplished message board poster that you'd surely be a first round message board poster pick, but I think it makes him pretty accomplished at his profession.

Brady was a 6th round draft pick being selected at #199. while Bush the BIG BUST was a first rounder...
The same can be said for Rivers and Manning compared to Roethlisberger.
Smith will be just fine in a few years! The Steelers are good for drafting players, especially Defensive players.
