Curtis Martin May Buy a Piece of the Falcons?

Pro Football Talk has put together the pieces to surmise that Curtis Martin could soon own a part of the Falcons.

For the past year Martin has been making noise about his plans to become an NFL owner, the question has just been which team he would purchase a piece of.

PFT reported that Martin was at the Falcons game on Thursday night. As Mike Florio notes, there aren't a whole lot of reasons to make a special trip to that game unless you're there for business reasons. He's also been rumored to have been seen with Falcons owner Arthur Blank at an Atlanta restaurant. Martin told the New York Daily News last week that he is focused on becoming an owner, and he expects to be one by next season.
"It's something I'm very serious about," Martin says. "Other than playing football and my charity work, I haven't focused on anything like I'm focused on this."
What's not clear is what percentage of the Falcons' Martin would buy. As a former NFL star he earned somewhere around $75 million during his 11-year career. That's a lot of money, obviously, but when you consider that Blank bought Falcons for more than $500 million five years ago, so even if Martin managed to build up a $100 million nest egg through some very savvy investments he would still be very much a minority owner.

But it's cool to see a former NFL star trying to switch sides to the owners' box, and it would seem to be a win-win situation for the Falcons, who could get a big name and a football savvy owner.
