I'm completely serious. Chargers owner Dean Spanos needs to pick up the phone tonight, call Marty Schottenheimer, and say this:"Hey, Marty. Remember back in February, when I fired you? Yeah, how about we take a do-over on that? What's that? You want me to fire A.J. Smith? Done. The locksmith is on his way to A.J.'s office door as we speak. You said you want to be the highest-paid coach in the league? Sure. You want your brother to be your assistant head coach? You got it. Whatever you want, just please, come back and coach our team, right now."
Norv Turner has done a horrible job as the Chargers' head coach, and the Chargers have now dropped to 1-3 and all alone in last place in the AFC West. But it's not too late for the Chargers to make a run to the playoffs. The whole division is weak, and the Chargers undoubtedly have better overall talent than the Chiefs, Broncos or Raiders. If Schottenheimer showed up tomorrow as their head coach, those talented players would be inspired to go out and play like hell.
Is it going to happen? No. But it should. Firing Norv Turner and hiring Marty Schottenheimer right now is the only way to save the Chargers' season.

I never understood the hiring of turner. He has won nothing every where he has gone. They say he is a great O coordinator ? Where ? With the Cowboys? Hell they had the best O line and the triplets. Jim Kotite could have won with that team. I would seriously get rid of turner now before he loses the team.

I agree with you Mike. Marty is unfairly criticized for not winning in the playoffs. He is a good coach, better than Norv Turner. But the Chargers' problems go much deeper than the coach. They have yet to learn how to behave like a winning team, instead of showboaters and whiners. I think that even Marty would have a hard time getting this group to come together when it really counts.
And congratulations for not mentioning the Pats, even once. I know it must have been hard. LOL

AJ Smith probably could have opend a phone book, picked a name, and found somebody who could coach the Chargers to 10 wins.
But instead he picked a proven failure in the NFL?

Turner's play calling is mind boggling. When it is third and two and you have LT in the backfield, why do you go to the shotgun or the no-back backfield? The Chiefs just tee-off on Rivers, who apparently forgot how to play quarterback. Play action, draw plays, screen plays, and good old fashion power running went out the window when they got their 10 point lead and they never went back to it! LT had over 100 yards in the first half and they just forgot about him. They didn't even fake it to him in the second half. What an idiot Turner is!!! Also, A.J Smith may have a great eye for talented players, but a lowsey eye for coaches. His pride caused the Chargers to take a major step backwards. What a pathetic start to what was a promising season.

AJSmith's incompetence and arrogrance are unbelievable. Did he have a plan? No he waited until Wade Phillips went to Dallas and the offensive coordinator to Miami, then he let's Donnie Edwards go. Finally he destroys any resemblance of the Chargers winning season coaching staff Mary. Absolutley unbelievable. It starts with firing Smith.

Norv Turner is proving he can coach any team down to his level, I'm not sure the Chargers could win in Division III football with him at the helm.

AJ SMITH ran Brees out of town so Rivers could start, when Rivers lost the Play off game last year Smith blamed it on Marty and ran him out of town because he can't stand to have someone around that knows more about football than he does. Those two actions are bad enough but he brings in Norv to run the offfense and Fat and Stupid to run the defense, making sure that Marty's coordinators were already employed as head coaches elsewhere. The result if a pathetic team led by a loser. The answer is simple: Fire A.J. Smith today. Lots of teams have competent GM's (in fact most teams do) but we are stuck with Dean Spanos who if his daddy didn't own the team couldn't get a job as a water boy and his GM Smith. I loved it today when the crowd was chanting, "Marty, Marty"

Good job Vincente Jackson. You dropped the only spiraled pass that Philip threw all day and it would've been a walk-in touchdown.
Thanks for smiling all the way to the sideline.
You are the epitome of Charger wide receiving. You're David Boston without the biceps.

All I have to say as a long, long time, and long-suffering Charger fan is if Spanos does not fire AJ Smith either after this season or sooner, then let the Bolts move to wherever they want because after 37 years of rooting for them, I can not do it any longer, I am sick of losing, and with clueless owners, a moronic and very egocentric GM, and basically a history of heartache, I am done. Thank you Chargers for playing like little girls, thank you Ted Cottrell from taking one of the most fearsome pash rushes and turning it into a joke, and thank you AJ Smith for ruining my football season you freaking moronic tool, I hope you choke AJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had no problem with them canning Marty, but hiring Norv Turner? Norv Turner?
Perhaps he's a great offensive coordinator, but ask the Redskins or the Raiders what kind of head coach he is.

Schottenheimer is the luckiest man on Earth. He would have likely finished the year 9-7 (good enough to win the AFC West), but that's about it. Just like he did in 2005. He can instead play golf all day and be a martyr for the Chargers franchise. He would never want to come back.
The only question is if A.J. Smith comes back next season. Probably not. So let the Pete Carroll to San Diego rumors start.
