The Bills lost a lot more than just the game this afternoon against Denver. And while the last-second field by Broncos kicker Jason Elam was heartbreaking, Buffalo has to be far more concerned with the various injuries suffered throughout the game.
Perhaps the most disconcerting was the injury sustained by tight end Kevin Everett, who was taken out in an ambulance after a helmet-to-helmet hit in the third quarter. He appeared to lose consciousness before hitting the ground, and it is not yet known if it has been regained.
In addition to Everett, safety Ko Simpson suffered a broken ankle, cornerback Jason Webster suffered a broke forearm and Coy Wire sprained his knee. And while they all appear to be serious, they pale in comparison to Everett's injury, which may end up being career, or even life threatening.
After all that, Bills fans may have a hard time finding something to be optimistic about. However, they should look no further than rookie running back Marshawn Lynch. Although he seemed to struggle in the preseason, he made his presence felt this afternoon to the tune of 90 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.
Meanwhile, things got off on the right foot (funny? no?) for Denver. Jay Cutler had an impressive day, going 23 of 39 for 304 yards (1 TD, 1 Int), while Travis Henry did what any Broncos starting running back does -- rushing for over 100 yards. In addition to that, Javon Walker was the main beneficiary of Cutler's huge day, hauling in nine catches for 119 yards.
Final Score: Broncos 15 - Bills 14
Note: NFL Network will have an encore of this game tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. eastern time.
Update on Everett: According to FOX (TV), Everett is having emergency surgery on what's being classified as a "cervical spine injury."

If this game is any indication of what kind of a season the Bronco's will have, then I can't wait. What a great game. Hope that Everett is ok.

My hope and prayers is that Keith Everett recovers from his injuries and recovers speedily. The Bills have a lot of adversity that makes Michigan Wolverines pale by comparison.

Yikes! Fans, indeed...
While I can certainly appreciate when "my" team wins, I cannot ignore the fact that a man may never walk again, much less play football.
How sad that some of you are going on and on about how "great" the Broncos are without a mention of Kevin Everett.
To those, I say, "You're pathetic." And I think even the Broncos' team members themselves would shame you.
Life's more important than a football game, folks. Get that through your skulls.

Bronco kicker is very much so a point shaver he misses two three pointers and then makes the last in hurry up to win the game by one with the spread -3, noway someone should teach him a lesson if you know what I mean.
