Why Should Childress Curtsey to Belichick?

As reported by the Star-Tribune yesterday, Brad Childress lobbed a hand grenade in Bill Belichick's direction yesterday accusing the Patriots coach of vaguely threatening Childress unless he bent to Belichick's wishes and let Garrett Mills slide through waivers.

Pro Football Talk picks up the story today
, pointing out that people around the game believe Childress put his foot in his mouth by making Belichick's threats public.
Said one source: "Why, in God's name, is Brad Childress talking about Bill Belichick to the press? Is [Childress] a complete and senseless moron? He basically insults one of the most powerful coaches in the league by calling him out as dishonest. He's an idiot coach."
As PFT explained, by calling out Belichick, Childress is running the risk of angering an influential coach who could help or hurt his chances of getting another job when his gig with the Vikings if over.

While that might be true, I still think Childress made the right call. Hey it's his career he's putting on the line, and since when has making Belichick happy helped any opposing coach? Heck ask Jets coach Eric Mangini how hard it is to stay on Belichick's good side, even when your crime is leaving to become a head coach. By standing up to Belichick now and publicizing it, he showed the Vikings their coach won't take any crap, and the uber-talented Patriots aren't on the schedule any time in the near future, so it's not like Belichick is going to be running up the score anytime soon. So Belichick won't send Childress a Christmas card, I think Big Bad Brad will survive.
