Okay, It's Gotta Be a Rule: Wear a Giants Jersey, Go Down With Injury

The most frustrating part of being a Giants fan over the last three years has been the overwhelming amount of injuries. Not once in those three years have the Giants managed to play through a season without a significant injury. In fact, they'd consider it a good year if they only suffered a single significant injury.

Unfortunately, with a little over a week to go until the regular season begins, the Giants are once again facing those injury demons. It began early in the offseason when fullback Jim Finn was placed on injured reserve with a torn labrum and was promptly followed by cornerback Michael Stone going down with a hip injury.

Over the course of the next few weeks, the Giants lost tight end Darcy Johnson (knee), wide receiver Michael Jennings (Achilles), defensive tackle Marcus Bell (knee) and defensive end Dek Bake (back).

If it ended there, the damage wouldn't be so bad, but hey, this is the Giants we're talking about.

During Sunday's preseason game with the New York Jets, several more Giants went down with injury. Linebacker Kawika Mitchell suffered a groin "tweak" while cornerback E.J. Underwood (jaw), tight end Rodney Burgess (shoulder) and David Tyree (fractured hand) suffered injuries of their own.

Sadly, the news didn't get any better today. In addition to the Tyree update, it was also announced that fullback Robert Douglas, the only fullback remaining on the Giants roster, will also miss significant time due a meniscus injury that will require surgery.

Oh yeah! Plaxico Burress also missed practice today due to back spasms -- just another name on the "boo-hoo" report that continues to grow daily.

Other injured Giants currently missing time: Jeremy Shockey, Gerris Wilkinson, Jared Lorenzen, Sam Madison, Kevin Dockery, Will Demps, Ryan Kuehl, Gerrick McPhearson, Jeff Feagles, Adrian Awasom and Grey Ruegamer.
