During the Philadelphia Eagles-Pittsburgh Steelers preseason game last night on NBC, sideline reporter Andrea Kremer revealed that Jeremiah Trotter's agent has confirmed talks with the New York Giants. But before anyone reads too much into this, it was also revealed that Trotter's agent was the one that initiated contact. Additionally, agents generally "confirm" more talks than there actually are in order to increase interest in their clients.
The Giants have already stated they have "zero interest" in Trotter, but anything is possible. Given the injuries to Gerris Wilkinson (knee) and Kawika Mitchell (groin), New York may find themselves in the market for another linebacker, but probably not a middle linebacker.
I highly doubt the Giants will consider Trotter, but I'll keep an eye on the situation regardless.

I have to defend Reese, whom I think is a very promising GM who had an excellent draft and a terrific free agent pickup in Mitchell, and looks like he wants to build with youth and speed. And that's precisely why Trotter would be a mistake. It's more important to work DeOssie, Blackburn, and Wilkinson into the mix than to acquire a good guy who won't be of any use in a few years when the team is seriously competitive. Unless you think the 2007 Giants are a team ready to compete for the Super Bowl (I don't) then signing a quality but aging veteran makes absolutely no sense.

Unless Wilkinson and Mitchell are going to be out for a long period of time how does signing Trotter make any sense? He's a middle linebacker, first of all. Secondly, Andy Reid wouldn't let him go if he thought the guy was still a top-level player. I don't want anything to do with the second coming of Carlos Emmons, the last veteran linebacker we got from Philly.

Like most of you say......this all depends on the injuries to Wilks and Mitchell. Trotter is one mean sob and would help for at least 1 season. I'm sure Spaganulo wants him for leadership and depth since they spent a few seasons at Philly together. If you wait for cuts at that position you still won't get a LB like this.
