We already know that Michael Vick has agreed to work as a government informant in exchange for a lenient sentence. But just how lenient will his sentence be?In a column at ESPN.com, Howard Bryant drops a bombshell: According to Bryant, one of ESPN's legal experts thinks Vick might not have to do even one day in prison.
Vick likely faces 12-18 months in prison, but ESPN legal analyst Roger Cossack believes it's possible Vick could provide enough information to federal investigators about the illegal, underground world of dogfighting and the people who finance it that he might not go jail at all.
Obviously, that would be the best-case scenario for Vick, and the more work Vick does as a cooperating witness, the more desperate he'll be to stay out of jail himself: Prison is generally not a comfortable place for someone who tried to save his own skin by working with law enforcement to get others thrown in the slammer.
But I don't believe this. I don't think there's any chance that Vick escapes prison time. He has just confessed to bankrolling a major criminal enterprise, and if he gets off without going to prison, it will send a message that the law treats the wealthy and famous differently from the rest of us. That's not a message that Judge Henry Hudson, who ultimately determines Vick's fate, wants to send.

Michael Vick should be on the receiving end of one of his dog fights. Then he could experience the pain that the dogs experience as they fight to the death as spectators watch and cheer. I loved watching Michael Vick play at VT. What a talented and gifted young man. Now I can only look at him in disgust.

Although I hope that Vick cooperates with the prosecutors as much as possible, it might not be the safest course for him to follow. People in organized crime don't particularly like snitches, and I don't see Vick entering a witness protection program. (If he does, I hope he doesn't use the name "Ron Mexico" again as I don't think it will fool too many people.)
However, to obtain a lenient sentence from this tough judge and an improved image, I would suggest the following:
1. Tell the prosecutor everything he knows.
2. Since the remaining 53 dogs can't be released to the public, show compassion for them by establishing a trust fund to care for them for the rest of their lives so they won't have to be euthanized.
3. Establish a charity (or donate a large amount to an existing charity) for the establishment of no-kill shelters for abused and unwanted animals.
4. Speak at schools about the horrors of dog fighting.
If he does these things, (and if his information is instrumental in locking up other big fish who are presently engaged in dog fighting) the benefit to society would far outweigh the benefit of putting him in prison for a long time at taxpayer expense.

if Vick stands accused of interstate gambling and violation of the RICO statutes, in addition to awaiting prosecution by the Commonwealth of Virginia, my view is that his problems have only just begun.
Virginia takes a tough stance on felony crimes, without exception.
I find it hard to believe that he walks, no matter what he testifies to.

What Michael Vick has confessed to is a major step in his willingness to improve as a human being above all. With that said, time will never heal his involvement in financing, and managaging, an illegal dog fighting enterprise, and I only hope upon his rehabilitation that he truly understands the magnitude of what he's done.
I'm not defending Michael Vick and his illegal activity, after all, what's wrong is wrong. As an African American male, I have come to the conclusion that there is a double standard with African Americans in professional sports and the entertainment industry. Barry Bonds has never failed a steroid test, only confessed to unknowingly rubbed the "clear" on his skin and has gotten ripped by everyone on the Planet Earth. However, Jason Giambi has admitted to using steroids and his apologies are fully accepted by the Baseball Commissioner and everyone on the Planet Earth. No matter who you are ... black, red, yellow, or green, if you've done something illegal, you have to face the consequences of your actions and poor decisions, as Mr. Vick has.
Another situation comes to mind, over the years, there have been several African Americans in the entertainment industry to do wrong and get punished for it. A few names that come to mind are Whitney Houston, Rick James, and James Brown. Now you have Ms. Lindsey Lohan, with all her illegal drug possessions, DUIs, failed rehab, and the cycle continues ... and what, she presumably will face continued probation with no jail time. After all, DUI and drug usage ultimately will kill someone ... it's only a matter of time.
Just trying to be real on the Planet Earth, in the United States, today as we know it.
Michael has admitted his mistakes, and will own up to it ... will the rest of America. What will be interesting is who else is involved once he starts talking.

How about we release the remaining 53 dogs at halftime of the super bowl. Vick will have to run from 1 end zone to the next. If he escapes he is a free man. If not he dies.

Why is it when a African american has enough money to have a good lawyer that leads to maybe a lighter sentence. People can't handle it. But when white stars do it I don't see the same level of hate.
Lindsay Lohan (2 DUI's, 2 Cocaine charges)(1 day in jail)
Rick Tocchet(NHL) Ran a gambling ring for 5 years (probation, no fine, no RICO charges, even though bets were in the millions)

I think the FBI should strap a bloody raw steak to Vick's bare ass & give him a 10 yard head start running before they release his dogs. If he outruns the dogs he gets to eat the steak, if not, oh well!!

Double Standard- If you believe that there is a double standard in sports and entertainment, you will interpret the facts in such a way that supports your bias.
There are lots of entertainers and athletes, white, black and brown, who have served time for criminal conduct. And there are also a lot of entertainers and athletes, who have received a slap on the hand, or less, for their conduct. The same holds true for society as a whole.
As for Barry Bonds, the reason he is disliked by a lot of people is that he appears to have cheated in order to break an honorable man's record. He basks in the glory of breaking one of the most hallowed records in baseball while denying his use of steroids. This, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, including his own admission that he may have unknowingly taken them, his mistress's statements that he admitted taking them, the statements of the chemist who developed the "clear" that he understood that Bonds was on the "program", the change in his physical appearance consistent with the use of steroids, the fact that Bonds' personal trainer would rather sit in prison than tell a grand jury what he knows, and Bonds unheard of 40% increase in slugging percentage AFTER the age of 36. By comparison, Giambi is neither breaking one of the most hallowed records in baseball nor denying his use of improper substances. Rather, he is standing up and admitting that what he did was wrong. Generally, the general public will react more favorably toward those who admit their mistakes. If you look at both sides, I think that you may come to realize that there is no double standard, but rather merely an imperfect justice system making a lot of random mistakes.

Mike don't have to sing on anyone don't forget that his friends did it for him. Number one Taylor, let you know you can't put trust in no human being. I think call Mike a S O B is wrong that is like talking about his Devoted Mother, talk about that dead-bet dad and granddad who only has love for his MONEY.

I personally think that Michael Vick should get the
maximum jail time. I have lived in Atlanta since 1963 and have watched and loved the Falcons. Vick is a disgrace to the Atlanta Falcons and to the City of Atlanta.
