Giants Training Camp Notebook is a cliff notes style post aimed at giving Giants fans up-to-date news about the most recent training camp practices.- Today's biggest story was the return of wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who had been out since August 2nd with a sprained ankle. Perhaps even more encouraging was his performance on the field. Plax caught a nice hook from Eli Manning in front of R.W. McQuarters, and later put a move on Corey Webster that nearly broke his ankles.
- Back-up tight end Kevin Boss also had a big day with quite a few spectacular grabs. His most impressive catch came on pass from quarterback Jared Lorenzen which sailed through the hands of wide receiver David Tyree.
- Coach Tom Coughlin, who has battled it out with Tiki Barber for about two years, seemed pleased with Eli's response to Barber's latest criticisms.
"I think he thought about what he was going to do and decided he'd say exactly what he felt. More power to him," Coughlin said. You know deep down Coughlin was chanting "Eli! Eli! Eli!"
- Jeremy Shockey (hamstring), Sinorice Moss (ankle), Sam Madison (hamstring), Will Demps (elbow), Grey Ruegamer and Jonas Seawright (concussion) all missed practice with their respective injuries.
- Would Giants Training Camp Notebook be complete without a Matt Lentz story? He didn't fall down or trip today, but he did send a snap flying over the head of quarterback Anthony Wright. Is this guy serious about playing football or what?
Rapid Fire:
- Justin Tuck looked good today and collected a sack.
- Don't think about it -- the Giants are not interested in linebacker Jeremiah Trotter.
- Wide receiver Anthony Mix had a nice 15-yard catch on a hook this afternoon.

Great news about Boss. The draft keeps looking better and better. I hope all the naysayers will remember that Reese's first draft was one of the best the team has ever had. Boss is going to have to play this season. From what we've seen so far he has great potential.

I understand that this phrase best gets across the move that Plax made but, at this point, no further remarks regarding injuries to Giants players should be made. I don't think my heart can take another.

I am really disappointed with Tiki. The comments he made were thoughtless and hurtfull. I always thought he was a class individual. It seems I was terribly mistaken.

Tiki's comments weren't hurtful, and they were taken way out of context with the gist of what he had to say, which was pretty complementary of Eli. The media just likes to harp on the negative.
I think Tiki's comments also accomplished another thing, they brought out the fire in Eli, and they forced Eli to show some leadership. Mayber Tiki wants to play "the bad guy" so that the team will have more focus. I believe that Tiki's intent was to get Eli to show some more fire, and to rally the team around Eli.
The more Tiki criticizes the Giants, the more united they will be. Besides, Tiki is a commentator now, and part of a commentators job to to be open and honest, not to be polite and insincere.

I think Tiki is just getting a rise out of Eli because he knows he can be a leader, but doesn't know to. This will get him going and speaking out is the first step.
That being said, I honestly have no faith in Eli leading this team to the promised land. I'm hoping for an 8-8 season and chalk it up to a rebuild year.
