Last year the Atlanta Falcons' quarterback depth chart consisted of starter Michael Vick, backup Matt Schaub and No. 3 D.J. Shockley. With the news today that Shockley is out for the season with a knee injury suffered in the Falcons' second preseason game, the Falcons have now had complete turnover at quarterback. Shockley went to Georgia and was a local fan favorite, and there was some talk that he might be able to push Joey Harrington out of the starting lineup. He was at least considered the favorite to win the No. 2 quarterback job this season, ahead of Chris Redman.
Now the Falcons are stuck with Harrington, Redman and Casey Bramlett at quarterback. Bobby Petrino had no idea what he was getting himself into when he accepted the Falcons' head coaching job seven months ago.

Bramlett would be a good 2nd QB, if not a starter. The Skins really screwed the pooch when they let him go.

This news can prove to be either disastrous for the Falcons or it could be a blessing in disguise. You had to already figure Vick was never going to take a single snap this season (assuming of course he ever takes another snap for Atlanta at all), and from what I remember of Shockley he was a similar style quarterback (although a better passer). Now it appears the coaching staff will be forced to move away from the type of offense we've seen from the Falcons the past few seasons. Hopefully Harrington can prove that he's a good quarterback if he has a decent team around him.

It's a damn BLOG dingy Tom the "I am so smart" jerk. Put away your red pen and GROW up! Can't think of an intelligent comment ON the topic so you think you are a BIG man attaching someone else? Sort of like Vick thinks he is a BIG man hurting and killing helpless animals. You'd make a great pair. Vick's idiocy ruined the Falcons and I feel sorry for the coach. I hope they can find someone and recoup as it is still pre-season after all.. Never give up, Falcons, but Tom, DO give it up thinking that you are better than anyone else. Doing THAT is making YOU out as the low life jerk!

They should have stuck with the idea that "YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO BE INNOCENT UNIL PROVEN GUILTY!" I don't know all the rules in the NFL, but if it was possible, they should have gave Vick a chance to play and prove his innocence at the same time. That's my opinion.

tracy, there is NO WAY the league would want to be associated with what vick is accused of, and they would not want a reminder of that every sunday. also, the situation might be different if it didn't seem like there was much evidence, but there's a lot of ugly stuff out there now.
and it's not just a matter of letting vick play. the falcons wouldn't start him now anyway due to his distractions, which in part have taken him out of game shape, plus as a player vick was only going to get better if he focused on the playbook. so there is no value in keeping him in the league this year were he only a backup.

LET VICK PLAY! I'm sure that there is at least one animal lover on the defense of every team the Falcons will play this year. I'd love to see Vick get pounded every week until he's either injured or sent to jail.
He's an established thug, so spare us the bleeding heart " innocent until proven guilty " crud.He has enough money that he'll never get the punishment he really deserves, if he's even convicted.
Let the other NFL plsyers dish out what he's got coming, where we can all watch and cheer.
