Giants Training Camp Notebook is a cliff notes style post aimed at giving Giants fans up-to-date news about the most recent training camp practices.- I am going to start off with the weird news of the day: Back-up quarterback Jared Lorenzen was practicing long snapping duties! No, I am not kidding. Although practice was officially over at the time, Lorenzen got down and began tossing them back -- and if I understand correctly, he did quite well.
- Only a day after General Manager Jerry Reese declared the battle for left tackle to be "over," it was announced that Guy Whimper will start with the first team on Saturday night. My only reaction? Great way to get Eli Manning killed.
- What is going on with Osi Umenyiora? This guy has been on fire and given no reason to doubt his earlier prediction that he'd be the NFL's premier defensive end.
- Gibril Wilson had a good day today. He picked off an Eli Manning pass in the end zone and really appears to be closer to his 2004 self than his 2006 self. That, obviously, is great news for Giants fans.
Rapid Fire:
- Richard Yancy (only hardcore Giants fans know the name) had an interception off a carom today.
- Plaxico Burress, Michael Stone, Amani Toomer, Aaron Ross, Fred Robbins, E.J. Underwood will all miss Saturday's game.
- Wait, that's not all. Gerris Wilkinson, Todd Londot and Ryan Kuehl will also miss the Giants first preseason game.

I agree about Whimper from everything I have seen he gets beaten like a rug. While Eli is in there they better run the ball or call rollout plays to the right. One note to the Eli bashers. I saw the other day that Peyton had 11 more interceptions than Eli in his first 4 years. He just has to get away from these not just poor but horrible games where he looks like Grossman.
