Although he didn't mention Falcons quarterback Michael Vick by name, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie made clear in a conversation with reporters Tuesday that he would never allow someone involved in dog fighting to play for the Eagles. Lurie didn't say who he was referring to, but Kevin Roberts of the Courier-Post reports that Lurie meant Damon Moore and Thomas Hamner, two Eagles who were charged with animal cruelty in 2001. Of course, cutting players like Moore and Hamner, as the Eagles did, is a far cry from cutting a player as important as Vick."We're very disciplined in what we stand for," Lurie said. "Let me give you an example -- a few years ago we had a couple players who were . . . to put this nicely, not very respectful of their dogs."...
"Well, we don't respect that," Lurie said. "We don't do that. And they were gone from the team almost immediately if not immediately. That sets a tone, that these kinds of attitudes are unacceptable."...
"Individual teams have to be diligent in the way they mold (players) who are 22, 23 years old in a positive way," Lurie said. "It's not foolproof. But that gives you a chance to avoid any (incidents later on)."

Love that Jeffery Lurie. He won't mention Michael Vick by name or the two Eagle players who were cut for animal cruelty. Another dumb question. If it were Donovan McNabb or Michael Westbrook would Jeffery cut them or keep them fearing a Eagle revolt from the fans.
I think at this point, you would have to suspend anyone caught dog fighting, even if it's your stars.
It's very nice that he cut them off the team but that's not much of a punishment, if they are hired by another team. Those guys need to get more than a little slap on the wrist, for animal cruelty.
This comment will have its "merit" in the news media but the fact remains that if a player, after all the coverage that the dog fighting received, still is "STOOPIT!!" enough to allow himself to be involved in or associated with this type of incident in the future should be banned for life from ever participating in the league let alone be re-signed by another team! This type of punishment should be swift, immediate, and final!!, regardless of the players talent, fan support, or commercial indorsements!!!
lurie needs to also tell mcnabb to keep his mouth shut, because i totally lost respect for mcnabb with his support of vick. and i hope campbell's soup has dropped him as i will never buy another can if they didn't drop mcnabb just for being an idiot and opening his mouth.
The guy at the top must be referring to Brian Westbrook not Michael the Redskin's ex-WR. I believe that Lurie would cut Five, B-Dawk, and Westbrook for felonious behavior. Why does anyone doubt this? Me.O. was abolished and cut for noncriminal behavior and he was our #1 receiver at the time.
