How good is Tony Kornheiser on the radio? So good that the fact that he took a hiatus from his local show could be the downfall of a major radio operation. Harry Jaffe of the Washingtonian reports that the Washington Post Co. plans to close its radio arm, and Kornheiser leaving was the straw that broke the camel's back:
the only thing that brought throngs of ears to 1500 AM was Tony Kornheiser's morning gab fest about sports, music, or whatever he fancied. Tony left last month for vacation and then Monday Night Football, and Post Radio ratings tanked.I've said it before and I'll say it again: Kornheiser is great on the radio, very good on Pardon the Interruption, and terrible on Monday Night Football. That he persists in taking time off where he's great to spend time where he's terrible is a real shame.

I don't think Kornheiser was that bad on MNF. He called Theismann on all his bullshit when Theismann would just talk out of his ass. Now that Theismann is out of the booth, I expect Kornheiser to be much better. The only annoying part was when Kornheiser would play up his dumbness so Theismann could enlighten him about the game of football. I would guess that was encouraged by the producers though. At any rate Jaws should be a HUGE improvement over Theismann, good riddens to that bum.

That's incredible, I had know idea he was so good on radio. I love him on PTI, but his Monday Night Football is not the right place for him. Too bad I never heard his radio show I'm sure I would have enjoyed that. He knows a ton about sports, I'm sure he knows a ton about music too. Where's "his boy" Wilbon?

But it goes w/out saying - Kornheiser is getting paid $900K to suck on MNF, and even I would make an ass out of myself for that change. You would too Michael.

Byrd was going ballistic on the show the other morning because after confronting Jaffe, it turns out that Jaffe's "ratings" data is based on polling his two friends who listen to Kornholio and have since stopped. The real ratings haven't been released yet.
Jaffe was to appear on the show this morning, but I missed it...
