Tomorrow is the NFL supplemental draft, the opportunity for NFL teams to use their choices in next year's draft on players who are available this year. We previously noted that there have been a lot of supplemental draft busts, but Winning the Turnover Battle points out that there really are some diamonds in the rough, noting six different players who entered the league via the supplemental draft, with a combined 15 Pro Bowls among them.
My favorite of the bunch is probably Chargers nose tackle Jamal Williams, who left Oklahoma State and was chosen with a second-round pick in the 1998 supplemental draft. That was just a couple months after the Chargers took Ryan Leaf in the regular draft -- at least something worked out for San Diego that year.
I don't think any of the prospects in this year's supplemental draft are likely to be two-time Pro Bowlers like Williams, but I think there's a good chance that Georgia cornerback Paul Oliver will turn into a solid player, and there's a good chance that the Chargers will take him. We'll find out tomorrow.

Paul Oliver is a Cover 2 cornerback and maaaaaybe a safety down the road. We have a way bigger, faster, better corner in Antonio Cromartie. And Eric Weddle is a way better Safety than Oliver could ever hope to be.
I would be shocked if the Chargers take anyone at all. There is no room on the roster...its too deep and talented.

Let me comment to the retard above me - I'm from San Diego, Love my Chargers and watch every football team avidly. There is a reason that we've been going to the playoffs almost every year now and LOSING EVERY TIME IN THE FIRST ROUND. We can't even win 1 damn playoff game. If we make it to the 2nd round its because we had a "bye" week and didn't play the first round. Otherwise we would have lost.
OUR DEFENSE BLOWS COCK!! When it comes to the run, we are MONSTERS!! Have to give us that. When it comes to the pass we are Jokes and have been Jokes for quite some time now. We have a huge salary cap, we always try and pick young players to fill our rosters and it always bites our ass come playoff time. When we have studs like Donnie Edwards what do we do?? Trade him!! You think Quinton Jammer is a cornerback?? HAHAHA - Don't make me throw up!! You think that Terrance Kiel is a Safety??? LMAO - You've got to be sh*tting me!!
Our rosters are not deep enough on defense and we have to stop all this stingy sh*t that the Spanos family loves doing every year. Passing up free agents that could really help us, only to pick up players that were good in college and have no NFL experience. Yeah, Merriman is a pimp, but he can't stop the pass. Jamal Williams is GREEEEAT but he can't stop a wide receiver, we need secondary help. Until we get it, I'll see you at home during Super Bowl time. I don't want any phrase with Chargers and Super Bowl together anymore. I'll see them in the Super Bowl - WHEN THEY ARE IN THE SUPER BOWL.
Up your secondary then we can be a great team, until then our talent stops come January time.

They didn't trade Donnie Edwards. They just didn't re-sign him. I think that was a bad move, too.
Sure, Dean Spanos is no Gene Klein, but he picked AJ. Maybe San Diego gets a champ this year after all... or maybe the Spanos family moves the Bolts to Las Vegas.
We're San Diego fans - we're relegated to a life of disappointment due to everything else in our life being so good - Padres aside. Which would you rather have: great weather and beautiful women 365/24/7, or the fat, bloated cows of Indi and Boston with their rings? Tough choice, but there's more to life than sports.

The Charger brass has done a great job of putting together this team and locking up key players for several years.
One piece of inside information I have been passed is that whenevr the Chargers have tried to talk to a proven free-agent DB other AFC teams hear about it and start a bidding war just to keep the Chargers from getting stronger in the defensive secondary.
And do you think anyone would talk trade with them about a defensive back, not in your lifetime.
That leaves the draft and free-agents who cleared waivers to develop a secondary. With a late first round pick your not going to get the top DB in the country.
The way it is would be that the Bolts could trade Mike Turner with someone for a DB, but Turner is that added firepower and insurance they need to get through this season.
I would have liked to bring Champ Bailey to SD when he was available, but the other teams won't even let us sign Beatle Bailey without a fight.
It is a form of unspoken colusion between the teams. Nobody would let the Raiders sign a decent QB before last season. They wanted to punish Al Davis, see him squirm or maybe have a stroke. It's the same way, they don't wanna give the Bolts a DB cause that takes away their only vulnerability.
Please note Raoul - Most the good looking Babes are local talent, but many of them move to SD from other NFL cities sometime after puberty.
