In a bizarre segment today on NFL Network's Total Access, former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Nate Newton joined Deion Sanders and a couple of other panelists at a barbershop to talk about the NFL issues of the day. I don't know why they were at a barbershop, and I really don't know why NFL Network would bring Newton on unless he was there to talk about dog fighting.

Newton was once arrested at a dog fight, and the biggest story of the NFL off-season is the investigation into dog fighting on Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick's property. So how on earth can the NFL Network have Newton on the air if he's not going to offer some insight into dog fighting?

Vick's name came up during the segment, but Newton said nothing until the subject was changed. What does NFL Network think it's offering its viewers by having Newton zip his lips when the one subject about which he might have some insight is broached? Next time, NFL Network should tell Newton he can either talk about the Vick dog fighting case or stay home.
