Michael Vick's reputation just keeps taking hits. He's been accused of everything from giving a woman herpes (and an alias) to bringing a water bottle with a secret compartment into an airport to allowing his property to be used as a dog fighting ring. And now, waitresses, bartenders, valets and cab drivers everywhere will want to avoid him after the Las Vegas Review Journal reported this in its "sightings" column:
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, walking off without tipping after buying a round at The Venetian's center bar on Saturday night.
Either Vick is hoping to be cast as Mr. Pink in a remake of Reservoir Dogs, or he needs to be a little more generous about how he spreads around the proceeds from that huge contract of his.

Typical
You cannot tell another person how to spend his own money. And who cares. Here's one for ya to chew on... How about complaining that wages are too low and fighting to get the government to raise wages to an acceptable, livable wage so people want have to rely on tips to survive!
Maybe just maybe one of three things happened:
#1 - The report could be bogus...
#2 - The bartender could have been pretty rude, pretty obnoxious, and even said something to Vick about his "troubles".
#3 - He could have come across a bartender like Poster #1 who thinks they know who will tip and who will not, and then chooses to make him wait a little longer. -Now THAT'S typical.
This is not newsworthy and is rubbing salt in a wound.
since when is tipping a bartender compulsory? im not a big fan of tipping because of societal pressure, especially when someone is just doing the job they are being paid to do. ill tip when i feel like tipping. i dislike mike vick thoroughly, but i am not willing to castigate him for not leaving a tip that shows off his money. maybe he tipped the following round, anyway.
Sure tipping isn't required, but its pretty much expected. The whole system of resturaunts and bars are set up so that they can pay a certain wage to employees and the rest is implied with tips.
Lots of servers make two-something an hour, tips are implied. Bartenders and waiters are sort of like independant contractors, they are simply allowed to tend bar, or wait tables in the establishment and given a small amount of money, but the majority of the income is implied to come from tips based on service.
Yes, if you are too poor to afford a tip, you are too poor to eat out at a restuarant. Yes, people CHOOSE to have those types of jobs, just like you CHOOSE to eat out.
Just because you are a cheapskate don't act like we need a revolution to change the way the industry is set up.
Its not like people go to your jobs and if you make a typo or drop a box or whatever, they grab 5 dollars outta your pocket. Tip or eat/party at home.
Additionally, your 13.99 steak dinner would cost 25.00 if the restuarant had to pay servers 12 dollars an hour instead of relying on tips.
Your whiskey sour would cost 14.00 is bartenders had to be paid in cash and accept no tips.
Hopefully thats more concise and clear as to why tipping is expected and if you DONT tip why everyone thinks you are a jerk.
It generally known in the serving industry that black people don't tip.(I'm black and an ex-bartender). Why do you think the Las Vegas employees were glad the All-Star game left. All the hip-hop generation was there and it was the worst tipping ever. Like the posts above said. Its not SOCIETY pressure to tip. Its what keeps your 9.99 value meal at Friday's at 9.99 and not 19.99. If you want to eat somewhere where you don't have to tip, McDonalds is for you. Those employees are paid for their work by them. At bar's and restaraunts they are paid 2.13 an HOUR.
Its generally known in the serving community that black folks don't tip. (I'm black and an ex-bartender). So its no surprise that Vick didn't tip. Its not SOCIETY pressure to tip. Just like the above post says. Its what keeps your meals cheeper. Servers/Bartenders make 2.13 an hour. If they got paid 8 bucks an hour, how much do you think your 12.99 meal would go up considering 20-25 servers and 2-3 bartenders on the floor? If you want to go someplace where you don't have to tip. Go to McDonalds. Those employees are paid by the company. Servers aren't.
And black folks need to stop being so cheap and tip.
Who is surprised by this? The man fights dogs, flips off fans and is a generally reprehensible human being... In fact after the Virginia Tech shootings he donated a mere ten thousand dollars of his $130 dollars to his alma mater in their time of need. I'd be more surprised if someone told me that he tipped well. For the record I worked as a bartender in South Beach years ago and athletes like all other groups of people tip differently based on how well they were raised. Laveranues Coles once gave me a $50 dollar tip for a couple of drinks he had with his wife, and Tim Hardaway stiffed me twice.
Coles is mixed, raised by his white mother. But I will agree that it has a lot to do with upbringing. Just the majority of black families don't teach that.
bford -
do you not understand how the relationship between tipping/wages/etc works? If the government raised minimum wage in order to avoid the necessity of tipping, the price of all goods would increase appropriately? So, while there is no legal obligation to tip, if you preferred a system where people arent criticized for deciding how to spend their own money, the costs of goods would increase.
this is funny considering he wasnt in las vegas on saturday. petrino said vick has been at flowery branch everyday. i wonder how he managed to be in las vegas and atlanta on the same day.
Give me a break - what's next, are they going to criticize him for chewing with his mouth open?
If tipping were essential, it'd be required - don't let these doofus' who claim that its an unwritten rule sway you.. they just feel jipped because they're part of the crowd that tips automatically. TIPPING GOES TO THOSE WHO DESERVE IT. I've known plenty of bartenders and in different parts of the country and let me tell you something: they're doing fine. They'll get their tips if they're nice, serviceable people. I've known bartenders who made hundreds in one one night - now fast food, where people don't tip - that's another story.
So I'm not saying "don't tip" - all I'm saying is don't succumb to the pressures of society and tip automatically, there's a reason tipping isn't required: PEOPLE HAVE TO EARN WHAT THEY GET!!! I've met a few jerks behind the bar in my day, is somebody going to say that I should've tipped 'em anyway? No freakin' way.

Noah you're entitled to your opinion but remember, you aren't a bartender/waiter.
You don't know whats going on behind the scenes. Example, someone will order a well done steak, and see the table beside them order a macaroni and cheese (or other such things that dont take long to cook) and then the person who ordered second obviously get their food first. The well done steak guy then is pissed at the percieved slow service when if he stopped to think logically then he'd realize different foods take different times, different circumstances arise.
To assume you know how long something should take and whether there is a valid reason for something to be delayed is to be arrogant enough to tell someone else how to do their job. Again, random people off the street dont come into your office, look at what you're working and while they know NOTHING about what you are doing, tell you you arent doing it right, or fast enough.
IF someone is rude to you unprovoked, then dont tip. They are in the service industry and should serve you. BUT if you are being condescending, arrogant, and presumptious then they don't have to be rosey back, most are anyhow, but give people a break.
There are RARE occasions to justify stiffing someone.
Noah, are you suggesting that Vick received anything less than VIP treatment from his servers? They undoubtedly deserved 20%, and any VIP worth his salt gives much more than that. $200 for a round of drinks, a respectable C-note for the bartender. Anything less is downright uncivilized for a guy who has more money than he could possibly ever spend.
Tom, it's called "an airplane." They fly really, really fast, allowing you to be in two far away places in the same day. Amazing!
Let's not forget the generous tip he gave the grieving families of his alma mater. Hats off to Justin Hamilton of the Cleveland Browns. He gave $50k to the memories of the VT deceased. The difference? He only made $275k last year as a rookie. Almost 20% BEFORE taxes. Vick earns that in weekly interest on $100M + $30M in endorsements. To match him, Vick would have to pony up $23.4M.
That classless punk--I'm sick of reading about him. He sucks as a QB. They should dump him, or make him an RB until he gets hurt.
I agree with the last post. Kudos to Justin Hamilton and his contribution. Maybe when Mike loses his NFL job he can circumcise Elephants, then he would know what a big tip is.
Kudos to Justin Hamilton for his contribution. As for Mike , when he loses his NFL job maybe he can circumcise elephants, then he could see what a big tip is.
As Michael ever heard of the biblical saying "It is more blessed to give than to receive?"
