I'm sure that Tom Brady really wanted the Patriots to go out and get Randy Moss ... but it was not a case of the organization going out of their way to throw Brady a bone and do him a favor. Brady had to meet them halfway to get it done.Moss was owed $9.75 million by the Raiders, and if the Patriots wanted him, they had to take that on (Moss agreed to tear up his contract after the trade, more on that in a second). They couldn't have done it if Brady hadn't agreed to restructure his own deal, which I'm sure will add to the already formidable legend of Tom Brady's selflessness. After restructuring, Brady ran into a burning building and saved the lives of Pat Patriot's three autistic children. He's the most wonderful human being on the planet.
As for Moss's new deal ... a meager one-year, $3 million contract that could be worth up to $5 million with incentives. The Patriots give up a 4th-round pick and $3 million dollars for a guy who could not just tilt, but throw a damn anchor into the balance of power in the NFL. That's ridiculous. It's almost a crime that the Patriots got him that cheap.
There wasn't another receiver-starved team out there -- Green Bay comes to mind -- that was willing to give up more than that? That's unbelievable. Amazing get for the Patriots. If it works out, they dominate everyone ... if they don't, they cut him, and they're out almost nothing. Every other GM in the league is going to end up kicking themselves for allowing this to happen.

Yep, that's my hero.
There is one horrible possibility... It doesn't work perfectly but it doesn't fail miserabely either... Moss shows just enough glimpses of greatness that everyone starts pressing the issue of getting him the ball and in games in which you do not everyone second guesses it.... but its never bad enough to justifiy cutting him....
Essentially, it could turn out like every other team Moss has been on.
An even more horrible possibility: Moss works out perfectly in New England and we have to hear about how great Dreamboat et al. are all f'ing season until I want to kill myself.
God dammit, the Redskins have filled me with so much angst.
Tom Brady really wants to win another Super Bowl since he took a paycut to have Randy Moss as his new wide receiver. I know that since Randy is older he will wise up and play Patriot football and not loaf on the job like he did with his previous teams.
Curently Pats at 4 to one to win the next superbowl. Will be interesting to see how this influences the odds. My expectation is they will go down to 2 to 1 , as most will run to bet more on Pats- Unless ofcourse some meltdown in pre season and off filed things.

One more step to sainthood for Brady....Saint Thomas sounds familiar.
NOTE: when a player restructures their deal they are often NOT taking a paycut. they are merely moving unguaranteed salary into a guaranteed bonus. it actually isn't a selfless act since brady still gets all his money and if anything it helps him since if he tears both of his achilles tomorrow he'll get all of his bonus money but none of his salary (after he gets cut that is).
Pats are only team Moss would take less money for and one of two teams he said he'd go to. Seems Pats were in the driver's seat in this situation enabling them to get Moss for practically nothing.
As a Pats fan hearing how superior Manning is to Brady despite the Colts paying megabucks to their offense giving Manning the best weapons in football I'm excited to see how those Brady-Manning comparisons pan out this year with Brady now finally having comparable weapons.
Wonder what people would have been saying if Manning were throwing to Gaffney, Brown, and Caldwell and Brady to Harrison, Stokely, and Wayne?
It was not too long ago when Peyton was blaming his Offensive line and Kicker for Colt losses. Brady has not done that, rather including his O-line in his commercials. It has always been about Team for the Pats and Brady. Peyton? Mr. Me in his commercials. Take the glory for the Superbowl win. Peyton took $90M salary, beat the Pats by 3 and 3 minutes (with low grade receivers), and finally won a Superbowl. One and done. The Pats could beat the Colts this coming season WITHOUT Randy Moss. See you in Indy this season. New Boss? Same as the Old Boss.

until I read your last comment- you gotta use the
GD word? This shows your stupidity. Big Ern
When did AOL writers stop checking their facts? The reason the Pats were the only team that could do this is because Randy Moss didn't want to play for anybody else.
Oh, and people like David make me ill.
That is, Randy Moss wouldn't restructure for anyone else, and precious few teams would be able to pay him his 9 million.
I love how Brady is getting all kinds of ink for this.
Peyton Manning DID THE EXACT SAME THING about 2 seasons ago. QBs restructure their deals all the time to help accomodate the team's cap. Kurt Warner has done this, Mark Brunnell-- heck, even cap monster Donovan McNabb, whose contract will begin crippling his team promptly in 2009, did this once. As a poster indicated above, it's not really a selfless move-- the player is not giving up any money, just shifting around the order he gets it in.
Tom Brady is an over paid dork (whale penis) already... The Pats are the worst team in NFL history
Yeah but Brady has done this before multiple times. He restructured to stay with NE England, in 2003 to make room for more players he took a massive pay cut from $3 million to $450,000 to make room for more players in the salary cap from, last year he restructured again with that whole Branch situation and he is doing it again this year with the whole Moss situation.
Please! Can all you Pat fans show some class like Tom Brady and admit it that Manning is the best QB ever. Get over the loss last season to him and give him credit that is long overdue. What a bunch of whiny sore losers. Deal with it like men.
Go Colt's, Go Bears!
Manning is the "best QB ever"? HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Oh God! That was a great!! So he finally wins a SB after what...?....his 12th career playoff game and you crown him "the best QB ever"? HAHAHAHA!! Sorry that was just too damn funny. And that Brady guy who has not had the WR Manning had in the past, has only been playing half the time that is Manning's career has 3 SB wins and 2 SB MVPs. Oh yeah and lets not forget Mr. Joe Montana who surpasses both of them.....but Manning? ..."the best QB ever.?!?!" Oh God I can't stop laughing!! Thanks for the laugh there, buddy. :D:D:D
Tom Brady is the quintessential team leader in ever aspect of the word. He is my hero.
Would Manning restructure his contract for anyone ????
This is a big gamble, BUT if it works then The Brady Boys will have more expensive NFL jewelery then they can possibly wear.
GO PATS !!!!!!!!!!
The Colts are so one-and-done its comical. Brady will have 5 rings when he hangs it up.
