Greg Olsen's Rap Lyrics Cause a Stir in Chicago

This is the front page of today's Chicago Sun-Times. The accompanying column by Carol Slezak expresses outrage that the Bears' first-round draft pick was a member of a rap group during his freshman year in college, and that the group had some naughty lyrics:

I lost count of the number of times I heard the word "ho," or a certain b-word or a certain f-word. And the lewd sexual acts that are described? Well, let's just say they're not appropriate for this newspaper.
But apparently the Bears don't have much of a problem with them. The fact that the team's top draft pick, Greg Olsen, raps in the song doesn't bother the Bears a bit.

I'm not sure what Slezak wants the Bears to do here. Are they really supposed to avoid drafting any player who might have used some foul language in the past? Olsen's rapping isn't my personal choice of music (I've been listening to a lot of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash lately) but forgive me if I can't get too worked up about some stupid rap song that some teenagers wrote in college.

Cash's lyrics could make your average gangsta song sound like a nursery rhyme.

This reminds me a little of the 60 Minutes piece on Charlie Weiss, about halfway through the 06 season. The big scoop? Shhhhh...don't tell anyone - football players and coaches sometimes swear. Oh no!

This is idiotic. Yeah, he made a raunchy rap song. So? Jeez, if anything focus on what a crappy song it was. Nothing intelligent or original in it.

By the way, MDS, great musical choice. Johnny's the man!

Ofcourse everyone brushes this kinda thing off. No one would ever dare wonder if this sort of thing is an insight to his chararcter. Nooooooooo!!! SO he thinks women are bitches and ho's. Sooooooo what if kids might hear him drop the F-bomb 200+ times. Who cares. He's just a good christian young man, right??? He'll fit right in with all those animals in Chicago. So what if he has no morals. No one in the NFL does, right??? So what if he knocks up "some bitch" or "bitches" years down the road? What's one more fatherless child?? I don't mind rappers using the n-word,b-word or "ho,"
especially if they are black. That is their street jive talk. Even cowboys have jive talk. They call their women heffers, the h-word. It is the rap music melody that I get fed up with. It is the same ole thing over and over and over again. Every black person on the planet can rap because rap is basically one song. My crack, my crack, lick my f-word-ing crack. My crack, my crack, n-word ho, lick my f-word-ing crack. Ray Charles turns over in his grave every time a rap song plays. Rap is a black eye to the black music business. Time will tell
