According to a report by the Sporting News, the Jets are considering trading linebacker Eric Barton and cornerback David Barrett on draft day. In addition to those two, the Jets are also looking to trade wide receiver Justin McCareins for at least a fourth round draft pick. While none of the three carry any great value, the Jets may be able to package them and their first round pick to move up. They have an eye on some of the first round cornerbacks but realize most, if not all, will be gone by pick 25.
It's almost a certainty that McCareins would command the biggest return and would likely be the centerpiece of a potential first round swap. There is a good chance that Darrelle Revis could be available at pick number 20, someone the Jets would love to draft. With the Giants possibly wanting to trade down and their need for a wide receiver, they could be an ideal trade partner. I may be reaching a bit, but it's just a thought.

Barton,Barrett and McCareins are good players with experience and trading them for "low" draft picks does not serve the team well. Barton is solid, averaging more than 100 tackles per season, Barrett has become an interception specialists and McCareins is a great insurance policy in case of injury. The idea of getting rid of them is not wise. The Jets with the current team are SuperBowl caliber team, and unless the picks can help right away getting rid of them is a couple of steps backwards.

By trading their players for a higher draft pick the Jets are gambling their future away. Time will tell if getting rid of their three players for a draft choice will pay off in a Super Bowl appearance or some losing seasons ahead.
