Okay, who's the masochist that came up with this? In Friday's Cincinnati Enquirer, there's a poll for the worst Bengals draft pick ever. Amazingly, there are only five players listed: Akili Smith, Ricky Hunley, Ki-Jana Carter, David Klingler and jack Thompson. Yeah, I'd say this hits all the highlights, but couldn't this list be about 20 deep? Since we're only talking about first-rounders, it limits the field -- especially with all the law-breakers drafted during the Marvin Lewis Era -- but I'd like to nominate running back Chris Perry. He's not in Ki-Jana Carter territory -- yet -- but he's been injured for most of this three-year career. And what about Peter Warrick, the 4th-overall pick in the 2000 draft. Anybody know what he's up to these days?
To be fair, the the Bengals have landed some great player too -- particularly later in the draft: Chad and Rudi Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Madieu Williams. And, of course, the first-round hits: Carson Palmer, Levi Jones, and Takeo Spikes.
Oh, in case you're wondering, Akili Smith is running away at the polls -- he's garnered 54 percent of the vote; David Klingler is second with just 22.9 percent. Smith was that bad.

I wouldn't say Peter Warrick is even near one of the Bengals' worst picks. He was selected to the Pro Bowl as a punt returner but was unable to participate due to an injury. The only thing holding PDub back is the injuries that he has had in the pros. He never really sustained many serious injuries during college so that is why I believe he was so effective. In the NFL, it's a whole different level of play and when you have an injury it is a major setback. After recovering from his injury in Cinci, he was cleared by team doctors but Marvin Lewis still would not clear him to play. So there are a lot of backstage issues that we don't know about that go on that have held PDub from breaking out. When he was signed by Seattle, I thought for sure that was his spot. Seattle had many problems with receivers dropping balls, etc. PDub could have been the answer to those problems but once again, coaching held PDub back. Holmgren said at first, he was going to let PDub totally heal to 100% before he put him in the mix. When PDub got to 100%, Holmgren said he was going to get him to recognize the playbook a little better. But yet he had guys like Jeremy Urban playing over him. So needless to say, frustration sunk in with Warrick. Bad attitudes then came out, he was cut by the Seahawks. Then signed a AFL deal with the Las Vegas Gladiators but refused to report to camp. Now, I am not sure what PDub is doing but he deserves another shot in the NFL, so I am crossing my fingers that someone sign him. Good Luck Pete! I can't wait to see you back in the league!
