Browns Insist on Pursuing Trent Green

Um, yeah, I'm still not sure why this is a good idea:
The Browns are apparently ready to step up their pursuit of Chiefs quarterback Trent Green. Browns General Manager Phil Savage told WTAM AM/1100 on Thursday morning that the next step is to negotiate a "ballpark contract" for Green that would prompt him to want to come to Cleveland for a visit.
I know, I know, nothing's official until Green puts pen to paper, but what does signing a 37-year-old quarterback obviously on the downside of his career do for a club that won 19 games in the last four seasons?

Lucky for the Browns (though they don't seem to realize it yet), Green has stated that he only wants to be traded to Miami, so there's still hope this deal won't happen. I've written on numerous occasions that Cleveland should focus on upgrading the offensive line with their No. 3 overall selection -- preferably Wisconsin tackle Joe Thomas -- or try to trade down and accumulate more picks. Because right now, a washed-up, over-the-hill quarterback is not what the Browns need (they had that guy -- Trent Dilfer -- and that little experiment blew up in their face); warm bodies who can protect the quarterback and rush the passer ... that's what the Browns need. How come everybody but Cleveland's personnel department understands this?
