But Jean Strahan, the ex-wife of Giants defensive end Michael Strahan, can't afford the $4,700 a month she has to spend -- on utility bills for her mansion. Yes, the $3.6 million mansion Mrs. Strahan and her infant twins live in is so enormous that it costs $4,700 just for heating and cooling. And she says she can't afford it on the $3.7 million savings account she lives on, which is why she wants the court to force Michael Strahan to pay her more
I feel very strongly that fathers should be forced to support their children, and I don't object to rich fathers like Strahan being forced to spend big money on child support. But there's something unseemly about this Strahan divorce case. I'm not a legal expert and I don't know all the facts of the case, but the courts seem to have approved a situation in which Jean Strahan is receiving Michael Strahan's money for things so foolish as "$27,000 to dress her infant twins and another $22,500 to photograph them in their snazzy wardrobe." Something doesn't seem right here.

Domestic Courts generally do not care what the ex-spouse spends the money on. It has everything to do with the children being able to live at the same life style as the bread winner. It sucks but that's the way it is.
Here's an idea, if courts want the ex-wife to live the same lifestyle that the ex-husband lives in, then why doesn't Michael just move into a trailer, (double-wide of course).
After a while, the court will recognize how most of us live, and simple ask the gold digger to do the same.

this is a reply to Phil, not for nothing when i got my child support order, i had to prove all my expenses for my son, his school tuition, his dry cleaning, his school shoes, his dry cleaning. My ex does have to pay half my rent, no I never did go and have it increased when i bought my house but he has to pay half the utilities, yet again this was when i was in the apt it has not been used do to my move to a house. He also has to pay medical expenses, half of camp anything that has to do with my son. It doesnt include my having a manicure or anything to do with my expenses. I have to prove what I spend on my child, that i have a special bank account that pays just for my son's expenses.
In response to Dan I support my son and only me, yeah I was awarded child support and in the 9 yrs since I been apart from my ex, I have received get this are you sitting down $125 that is it, he owes me over $100k and he would rather sit in jail then pay for the support of his child. I dont get welfare, or any state subsidized money. I was in a bad car accident a few years back and am now disabled and I am out on social security disability, based on my income no one elses, and it is a struggle everyday to make ends meet and telling my son no i am sorry you cant go to so and so's party because I dont have the money for a present, or sorry you cant get a new pair of shoes. I give up birthday presents and christmas presents for myself from family and friends so i can send my son to camp with his friends. So i am sorry but you are so wrong, my son is 11 yrs olk and i have been supporting him his whole life, so I take offense to what you said.
I agree that their should be a limit especially when it comes to high priced athletes and stars the ex wife should get something for the kids, but i am sorry no kid needs 30K worth of clothes The judge needs to take into consideration that the athletes contracts are for a short time, they could get injured and then what happens. But these athletes are all over paid to begin with and its the fans fault that we are willing to pay astronimical amounts to see them play.
But there are some good moms out there that pay for everything, not a dime has come from my ex or his family. I wondered if she has heard of stores like Target, Baby Gap, Kmart, Walmart....etc. Alot of us,"Normal Americans", have. We use these stores to shop for our kids and it seems not a big ordeal.To spend almost $50000 on clothes and pictures is craziness. Ho-lee cow! My mortgage is a little over $500.00 and the lights, gas and water are usually no more than $250.00. Maybe Ms. GotRocks needs to downsize. That is obscene It might also be helpful if she'd get a job. I do think he has a financial responsiblity to his children, but I do not think it should be a "punishment". Divorce is not about who the bad guy is and they should be worrying about those kids and the impact all this foolishness can have on them...not who can live the most lavish life style!

This is in response to the woman from New York. New York is the toughest state in the US on child support- I know this because my exhusband lives in NY. They were threatening to throw him into jail because they refused to acknowledge the arrangement me and him had- even though I had it in writing and a judges signature. I had to submit paperwork to the local Dept of Revenue asking them to remove my case from NY for enforcement because they wouldnt listen to me. I do not think that a custodial parent should get so much money for child support they dont have to work. I understand it goes by income- and that is well and good- but yanno- millions of dollars and the broad still wants more? Give me a break- that's really pathetic and sad that this woman is raising those kids to be spoiled brats- Everything in my house probably doesnt equally what she spent on clothes for those kids. What happens when they grow up? What are they going to do for money? Probably what we all have to do and get jobs! This world is going to hell with all these spoiled brats running around thinkin the whole world should kiss their asses because they have some money.

As I read this I am in disbelief as to how lucky this woman is. As a father of five children and with full custody, I cant believe how she can not possibly see how good she has it. At least he is not a dead beat parent like so many other. These children are mine and I choose to have no financial help - if you cant provide for them you should'nt have them in the first place.
