Report: Pacman's Suspension Will Be 4-8 Games

For all the talk of Pacman Jones getting a one-year suspension, the Houston Chronicle reports that they have multiple sources who say that the player conduct code means that Jones will get a lesser suspension.

According to John McClain's story, Jones is looking at four to eight game suspension once he gets finished with his sitdown with commissioner Rodger Goodell. McClain also points out that the Titans do not have the right to suspend Jones themselves, so they're stuck with the choice of either cutting Jones or waiting to see what the commissioner does.

The Nashville City Paper puts 2+2 together, something I failed to do last night, to point out that former GM Floyd Reese's article on ESPN.com explains that Jones will lose money if he's convicted because contract language in his deal allows the Titans to recover money if he's convicted of a crime.

A Jones attorney said he doesn't known enough about Jones' contract to confirm that, but he was placed in the position of having to sell this whopper: Jones' plea deal for a public intoxication and disorderly conduct requires that he stays out of trouble until July 5 to ensure that the charges aren't refiled. It would seem that the Las Vegas case would threaten that, but Jones' attorney doesn't think so.
No matter what the Las Vegas incident brings, Robinson said he believes Jones has abided by the Rutherford County court's wishes.

"It is our belief that he has upheld his terms of the agreement to stay away from any trouble. If they attempt to reopen the matter, we will go to the judge and attempt to make them comply with the terms of the agreement," attorney Worrick Robinson said.
