Well, it took a week, but the insufferable Shaun Rogers finally showed up to the Lions' offseason conditioning program. And, despite the fact that I warned him about making exceptions in his character policy for potentially great players, Rod Marinelli insists Rogers isn't going anywhere.Trade winds seem to blow through Detroit for every player who might be on the block, but Marinelli said there are no discussions about Rogers, and he has no intention of trading him. This news comes in the wake of a report from the Denver Post that Rogers could wind up with the Broncos.
"I really believe he's going to go out and have a great year," Marinelli said.
Marinelli might be more inclined to keep Rogers because the Lions already have seven new starters on their defense, with possibly more arriving via the draft. I'm sure Marinelli wants some continuity on the defense, though judging by last year's performance I couldn't possibly understand why.
