Citing a desire to spend as much time as possible with Rich Eisen, Marshall Faulk will officially bring his career to a close on Monday. It's been unofficially over for a while now, with Marshall and some fans still holding out a slight bit of hope for a comeback. Monday, all that hope fades away, and Marshall Faulk takes the next step towards the Hall of Fame.
Just to recap: 9th all time of the NFL rushing list, 7 Pro Bowls, an MVP award, and the NFL record for yards from scrimmage in a season, in addition to being 8th all-time in receptions. He also might be the most significant player of all-time from a fantasy football perspective.
He'll be best remembered for his years with the Rams, who got him from the Colts for two draft picks, 2nd and 5th rounders (which turned out to be Mike Peterson and Brad Scioli). It was like Marshall Faulk was custom-built for a Mike Martz offense ... from the hands to catch balls out of the backfield, the toughness to block, the ability to turn nothing into something, his elusiveness in open space, and the brain to know when to do what. Marshall Faulk, in his prime with the Rams, was absolutely unstoppable.
Fortunately for all you Faulkheads out there, Marshall won't be too far away. You can always catch him on the NFL Network, were he seems to be on their for about 20 of every 24 hours in a day.
