Don Banks of SI.com reports that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is considering suspending cornerback Pacman Jones for the entire 2007 season, saying Goodell wants to make an example of the troubled Titan. An NFL source tells Banks:"We can't tell the Titans that he won't play for them ever again, because the Titans, at the end of the day, will determine his long-term future. But the league will determine his short-term future. You should see something within a two or three-week time frame, and I would think you could expect a multiple-game suspension, or as much as a year or beyond.''
I don't particularly feel like defending Pacman Jones, but I have to say, from what we know so far, suspending him for an entire season would be far too harsh. Although there are reports that he instigated a fight that resulted in a man being shot and paralyzed, Jones has not been arrested in that incident. And although he has been arrested in other incidents, including at least one arrest that he didn't tell the Titans about (in violation of NFL rules), it's hard to see how it would be fair for the league to ban him when the judicial system says he's a free man.
However, the players' union has shown little to no enthusiasm for defending its players in cases like this, and if Goodell does decide to make an example of Jones, I think a suspension would be upheld.

Ray Lewis partakes in a murder and is voted SB MVP a year later and they want to kick Pacman out of the game for a year?
WHATEVER PENALTIES THE NLF IMPOSE ON PACMAN JONES SHOULD BE UPHELD. MR. JONES IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF A TALENTED,OVER PAID,SPOILED PLAYER WHOSE WEALTH AND FAME HAVE DISALLUSIONED HIM INTO BELIVING THAT HE CAN DO WHAT HE WANTS WHEN HE WANTS WITHOUT HAVING TO FACE THE MUSIC.IN MY LINE OF WORK I WOULD BE FIRED! PERIOD! LET HIM BE AN EXAMPLE!!!!!
Personally, I think the guy deserves some time behind bars...and then banish him from the league. Who needs him?
"it's hard to see how it would be fair for the league to ban him when the judicial system says he's a free man." What a crock! Money and fame says he's a free man. As great of a player he is and others alike the NFL has to start suspending players for their crimes and actions. It might sound cliche but they are role models for kids all over. The fact that players get slaps on their wrist for these actions makes me sick. It's time for a change.
Pacman is not an example of what our children should be subjected to - he should be fired, fined and put in jail for the general population to show him what criminal life is really about - Then maybe he will appreciate his current standing in society.
Too bad PacMan doesn't play basketball - all you need there is to wear a suit and tie and don't hit another player. What's wrong with this picture? I present Ron Artest, you know, dog lover and great family man.....

Sitting out one season is not enough. Sitting out a life time would be just right. Relatively speaking a small number of players get to play in the NFL. This is a privilege and should be treated with repect. Alot of these thugs take it for granted as we just throw gobs of money at them at let them roam society thinking they are invincible. they need to be accountable. They are role models for all children as well as society in general. Most people living in the real world with real jobs would not be able to keep a high paying job for getting into the trouble and shenanigans that these atheltes incurr. It is time to make an example of someone to send the message. Clean up your act or get out. I wonder what kind of day job pacman would be able to get if he was sent packing for life, after all he is such a perfect role model! Perhaps maybe a kindergarten teacher or a motivational speaker.

Leave little Pac' alone. He hasn't killed anybody yet. Didn't see Ray Lewis get suspended for killing those two guys at the Superbowl.
Leave Lil Pac' alone. He hasn't killed anyone yet. I didn't see Ray Lewis getting suspended for killing those two guys at the Super bowl in 2000.
He is playing only because he is talented and can help his team win. That's why they all are playing pro sports. They aren't picked for their character. Until he is convicted of something he should be allowed to play. If we continue to use people who play sports as a role model aren't we to blame.
I believe they should be accountable for thier crimes and action they took them to jail or for whatever reason. they are no different than any other person. It is about time someone is saying enough is enough
I'm not defending the Jones, but there are idiots in the executive ranks of corporate america and in politics stealing and misbehaving every day and getting away with it. They're no better role models than Jones, only more educated and dressed like bankers which gives them the illusion of respectability.
So while Adam Jones might be an idiot, a year's suspension for something that happens in his personal life when so many other players suffer from the same bad ethics and behavior is inconsistent with the punishment handed out to others around the sports world. If you suspend Pacman, you need to suspend every other idiot to the same severity, not just in the world of sports but in the world of politics and corporate america.
I'm better now that I've gotten that off my chest. Thanks for listening.
Um let me say first yall are all IDIOTS pacman may be in the wrong place at the wrong time but he hasn't been CONVICTED of anything nothing he isn't in jail like Tank Johnson. Pacman was accused of doing what in Las Vegas um nothing being there i thought you were Innocent till proven guilty not the other way around
Unfortunately, Pacman is just another shining example of a nihilistic, dysfunctional american culture. Whether it be an athlete, corporate mogul, or ordinary Joe, it has been believed from time immemorial that "deviance" is fundamental to "order" in society (Ordo Ab Chao!).
As a result, Pacman will feel betrayed because he will be used as the "lightning rod" for the NFL's "get tough on bad behavior" campaign. It's not about an athlete being a "role model", in my humble opinion, as long as the check does'nt bounce, majority of them could care less about it.
What's really sad is that pacman is not the "exception", he's the "rule" of what our society looks like today!
Pacman Jones is one of the most gifted players in the league. He continues to involve himself in very dangerous and self-destructive activities. His family is worried about him and no doubt his Titan team mates and coaching staff are concerned about him. He needs some help. In addition to suspension, he needs guidance and he needs someone to hold him accountable for his actions. If he doesn't change his behavior and the people he associates with off the field, he will likely have to deal with consequences far worse than suspension by the NFL.
Pat and LB,
WELL DONE!
I wish I could have said it as eloquently as you just did. Good job.... agree with both of you.
