Giants unrestricted free agent Brandon Short got the shock of a lifetime last night when he witnessed part of an intense New York City shoot out which left four people dead. Short was out shopping with a friend and happened upon a jewelry store that was next door to where the wild shooter reloaded."I was scared when the bullets were flying," Short told Giants Insider. "I didn't know what was going to happen, we really could be dead. There's no question about that."Short and his friend managed to escape with theirs but three other innocent men unfortunately did not. Two auxiliary cops and a bartender were killed before members of the NYPD were able put an end to the madness.
Without getting into the sick and gruesome details of the shootout, I just want to say it's lucky that no one else was killed. It's a terrible and traumatic event that Short witnessed and even worse (obviously) for the families of those lost. I think I speak for all of Fanhouse when I extend my thoughts and prayers to loved ones who were taken way too early.

Oh boy, I can't help shaking my head while my heart is breaking for the innocent lives lost in the shootout.
I'm sorry Mr Short witnessed this shootout, but I hope this incident will make him think very carefully how good he has it as a professional NFL player & to stay out of trouble for his own sake as well as others.
Sounds like to me Mr Short hasn't gotten to the point to get himself in trouble big time with the law, I sincerely hope he never does along with many other players who've come into the NFL in the last year or two.
If the NFL has a decent brain cell or two (I wouldn't bet on it seeing the PR lately & the $$$ in their eyes), they need to set the high standard bar for the professional sports world in saying one has to be held accountable for their actions no matter what & stick to it! If one does the crime, you do the time like the average person (Hello Adam "Pacman" Jones, who is a disgrace as a professional football player to the NFL like Terrell Owens).
Why do I feel the way I do? It's because of seeing someoene like Darrent Williams of the Denver Broncos innocently losing his life for no reason (who wasn't looking for any trouble) when going out with friends, this young man was a positive influence for all.
I'm just an average white female fan who loves sports in general (get it from my late dad)& wants to see professional athletes earn the money they're paid & not forget who really pays their salary, the average fan. Let's hope for the best & take it from there.

PatriotLady - Are you seriously kidding me? He wasn't involved in the shooting. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time! He didn't pull out a gun and start shooting back. Looks like you just needed another reason to bash TO (who has never been involved in a shooting) and Pacman. People as a whole, whether they are athletes, businessmen or women, even average Joes like myself, make certain decisions for a reason. The only decision Short made here involved the preservation of his life and the life of his friend. "...hasn't gotten into trouble with the law..." you're more of a joke than TO.

Just wondering after reading some of the "blog."
Why do so many pro football and basketball players seem to wind up at the wrong place at the wrong time?
Why do they need bodyguards and carry weapons? Why do
they seem to have violence problems with wives and or girlfriends? It seems to me football players and ballers would avoid trouble by going to less seedy
night clubs and realize that their homeboys don't really have their best interest when at a "par tay"!
Hang on to yo money and yo woman. Be cool not a fool.

I believe that everyone should be accountable for his or her actions whether or not they are an athlete or just a regular old private citizen. That said, what exactly did Brandon Short do that was so wrong??? Unless something else took place that isn't being reported, he was just out shopping when the shooting occured. That could happen to anyone at anytime...especially here in NY. I think we should all just be glad that this wasn't any worse. Oh, and as for T.O., the only knock on this guy has ever been that he's selfish and immature...he shows up every Sunday and plays hard and he NEVER finds himself in any trouble off the field. People love to jump all over the guy because it's easy...but come on, in the grand scheme of things is he really that bad (see Pac Man Jones)?

Litasrents2,
You are correct in stating TO has never been involved in any shootings in addition to Mr Short being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
What I was trying to say is that I hope this incident will serve as a reminder to Brandon & other professional athletes to be more careful as they're in the public eye.
I respectfully disagree that I'm more of a fool than TO. While he is one of the best receivers in the NFL, what I don't like is his "me me me" attitude as a player (football is a TEAM GAME). His track record re: this since he's been in the NFL shows this (SF, Philadelphia, & Dallas), he's poison in the locker room. If TO could just change his attitude he would be so much more effective as a player on the field.
As to Pacman Jones, his actions speak for themselves. If he doesn't get his act together soon, he'll find himself released from the Titans & other NFL teams not wanting to take a chance on him.
All of us make decisions for a reason like you stated. But in making any decisions comes the responsibility of being held accountable for ones actions no matter what & who one is in life. Let's hope things will work out in a positive manner for TO & Pacman among others & that Brandon is hanging in there OK after witnessing that shooting.

To gposner,
Other city's are worse then NYC. When it happens here, it is plasted all across the nation, like it is an every day occurrence. It's due to our being one of the bigger named city's. NYC has a lot to offer in entertainment, sports and fine eating. Even with the occasional shooting, we draw more tourists then a great many other city's.
