A five-year, $25 million deal was enough to get London Fletcher into a Redskins uniform. He visited Washington yesterday, and took in a Wizards game last night. I suppose the 1-point victory over the Hawks was enough to convince London that Washington is the place to be.There's something magical about the Wizards' power of recruitment, I guess ... the AP article mentions that last year, Antwaan Randle-El, Andre Carter, Adam Archuleta, and Todd Collins all went to Wizards game on Washington visits, and all ended up signing with the 'Skins.
Fletcher gets a $10.5 million of Dan Snyder's money in the form of a signing bonus.
Fred Smoot also says that he's close to a deal with the Redskins. Starting corner Shawn Springs isn't expected to return to the team, and the other starting corner, Carlos Rogers, isn't expected to be very good. Smoot also took in the Wizards game, and the team also gave him a ground tour here.

Nobody can resist the hypnotic powers of Agent Zero. Who knew he was working for Daniel Snyder, too?

The Skins are becoming the NY Knicks/NY Yankees of Football... offering huge contracts for overrated talent. Smoot is a downgrade from Springs and they would have fared better picking up a young linebacker in the draft than paying all that money to the undersized Fletcher.
Spending their cap money in this manner will only benefit the Eagles, Giants and Cowboys.

with what pick? they only have 1 first day pick, and there are much better DL to find in the draft than there are in free agency. The skins need more help on the DL than they do at LB... As for Fletcher, of course won't see most of that money, and the 10.5 includes bonuses -- the guy had his best year as a pro last year, reunites with Gregg Williams, and is insanely durable (never missed a game)
as for smoot, he costs less than Springs -- the Redskins aren't going to let Springs go/trade him because they don't think he has anything left, but as a cost move... hopefully they don't release him, it isn't set in stone as of yet
