Just in Case You Were Wondering What Troy Edwards Was up to

I think it is safe to say that Troy Edwards' best days are behind him. The former Pittsburgh Steelers' 1999 first-round pick had a solid rookie season, catching 61 passes for 714 yards and five touchdowns. A year later, the team drafted Plaxico Burress in the first round and by 2002 Edwards was Jacksonville's third receiver. Now, after being out of the league for all of 2006, Edwards is in the Arena Football League:
Receiver Troy Edwards made an appearance in the [Grad Rapids Rampage intrasquad] scrimmage for a few plays. He has been sidelined by hamstring injuries.

"It was good to see him run around a bit, but he still has some time to go before his health is where it needs to be," said [coach Sparky] McEwen, who hopes to settle on his roster of 24 players as early as Friday. Monday is the AFL deadline to trim rosters.
Though it wasn't mentioned in the article, you'd have to assume Edwards' roster spot is safe. Either way, this is another sobering reminder that the NFL is a business. And apparently, so is the AFL because we haven't seen any Charles Rogers sightings yet. (Even AFL general managers know enough to stay away from guys Matt Millen likes.)
