Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux is facing criminal charges in connection with the death of his girlfriend's dog, and People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals wants to see him benched. A letter to Falcons owner Arthur Blank says,
On behalf of PETA's thousands of members and supporters in Georgia and compassionate people everywhere, we respectfully ask that-if this case is still pending in court at the start of preseason-Babineaux be suspended until its adjudication. Furthermore, if Babineaux is convicted, we ask that your organization release him.
The letter is signed by Dan Shannon, Sports Columnist, PETA Animal Times. I'm not familiar with Mr. Shannon or his publication, but Blank ought to listen. Although Blank says the Falcons aren't as bad as the Bengals, the allegations against Babineaux are disturbing, and if they're true there ought to be serious repercussions.

It. Is. A. Freaking. Dog.
Players that drive drunk, beat people for using laptops, and assault their wives aren't suspended, but killing a dog should get you released? The most absurd idea I've ever heard

so, jd, what's the real solution here? are you saying let babineaux slide because organizations are too stupid to suspend/release wife-beaters, et al? no, clearly the solution should be to suspend (or levy some other punishment) on ALL offending parties dog-beaters and wife-beaters alike.

You're a sick person to kill a dog, but you're also a sick person to cheat on your wife. Players beating their wives and getting arrested for real crimes is a far more serious matter that until recently the NFL has turned a blind eye to.

Just a dog. There's the problem right there. Far too many share that mindset.

"It's just a dog."
Is America filling with trailer trash or what?
You're as much of a punk as Babineaux.
