With the start of free agency approaching in the next week, Jeff Garcia's agent informs us that the Birds have not made any offer to the QB who played extremely well in Donovan McNabb's absence this past season. Garcia's agent, Steve Baker, made it known that Jeff "really, really, really wants to return to the Eagles."But for that to happen, Baker said, the Birds need to offer Garcia a contract - something Baker said has not occurred, as the days dwindle toward the March 2 advent of free agency. Baker said that in his last conversation with the team, a few weeks ago, Eagles officials said they wanted the situation resolved before the start of free agency. It's no surprise to anyone that the Eagles play hard ball with their players and contracts. If I had to make a prediction regarding Jeff Garcia, I'd guess that they will offer him a contract significantly less than what he could find in another city -- if they make him an offer at all. The Eagles are not known for over paying free agents and certainly not in the business of over paying back ups. Don't forget the Eagles have a capable backup in A.J. Feeley as well.
Baker said he won't make a proposal to the team without testing the market, so unless the Eagles come to him with a bid, Garcia seems unlikely to re-up before March 2.
Perhaps my favorite part of Les Bowens' piece is when Garcia's agent talks about Philadelphia. For all of you Philly haters, maybe you should come live here and root for our team and see what it's like.
"The Philadelphia experience was one of the highlights of Jeff's career," Baker said. "It would be extremely hard for him to leave Philadelphia. My suspicion is that he would leave substantial money on the table in order to return to the Eagles."

my guess is there isn't substantial money ON the table from any decent team. it's not a good sign for a player's negotiations when his agent says he "really, really, really wants to return" like he's trying to get to 100 words in a 6th grade book report.
Tampa would love to have Jeff Garcia...all our QB's are pitiful...what a difference he would make.
The agent says he won't propose an offer to the Eagles until he gets offers from other teams. Duh, the Eagles are doing the same thing! They won't overpay for any player let alone a backup.
I love the city of Philadelphia, the people, the food, everything, I imagine Garcia is expericencing the same.
I know the Vikings might be interested, that is if they don't trade a 4th round pick to get David Carr instead. I think Garcia would fit right in with Minnesota because they also run the west coast offence and it wouldn't be a big change for him. God knows he'd be a big step up from what the Vikings have now.
I think this means McNabb's rehab is going well and should be ready to start the season, and the Eagles are happy with Feeley as a backup. Now that some of the sentimentality about Garcia's great performance in 2006 has worn off, and we're back to the reality of the way the Birds do business, its not all that much of a surprise. I'd rather see that money go to keeping Juqua Thomas around.
I think if Garcia doesn't return I think that they would draft Tyler Palko or Zachary Talor. If Garcia does return I think that they should keep the same roster.
I think Philadelphia is smacking a gift horse in the mouth!
It would make tremondous sense for the Eagles to retain the services of Garcia. A proven Starter, a proven Back up, and he indicated he would be more than happy to back up McNabb and wait until called upon. What more could you ask for.
I wish things would have worked out for him in Cleveland.
Go Browns
Typical of the eagles...I'm sure baby Donovan and his mommy didn't like that Garcia had the whole city pumped up and excited after McNabb performed less then expected...McNabb had his chance in the super bowl and chocked...opps,I mean puked under pressure...he will NEVER win a super bowl and it looks like I will never see an eagles super bowl win in my life time :'(
