The Cleveland Browns won their coin toss with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today at the NFL scouting combine, meaning Cleveland will pick third and Tampa Bay will pick fourth. The coin toss was necessary because the teams had the same record in 2006 as well as the same strength of schedule, which ordinarily serves as the tie-breaker.Most of the talk regarding that third pick has revolved around Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Johnson has great size, speed and hands, and is widely regarded as the best prospect in the draft, but the Oakland Raiders are expected to select quarterback JaMarcus Russell first overall and the Detroit Lions are expected to draft tackle Joe Thomas second overall (or trade the pick to the Cardinals, who will pick Thomas.)
But would the Browns take Johnson? They've already spent high draft picks on tight end Kellen Winslow and receiver Braylon Edwards. Does it really make sense to spend yet another high pick on yet another pass catcher, when it's still not clear who will be throwing the passes? I think it's a little unlikely that the Browns will take Johnson, and yet I also think it's unlikely that Johnson will still be on the board after the first three picks.
For those who care about minutiae, Bucs general manager Bruce Allen made the call of heads. The coin came up tails.

Reports are that Winslow will be undergoing microfracture knee surgery. Recovery can be very difficult based on what we've seen in the NBA. I think this makes it a lot more likely that the Browns draft Johnson
Wow,we actually won something. I sure hope NFL Films was there to document this historic achievement.I'm sure what this means is that,the future #3 pick is doomed to suffer a season ending,career threatening injury.I love my Browns,but God must surely despise this team.We had better trade this pick away as soon as possible.Preferably to Pittsburgh or Baltimore.
well i don't know what drafting a wide reciever would do to help the browns. then again what would it do for the buccs. wr aren't always so good the first year anyway. especially if your o-line is craptacular
