Michigan lawmakers have proposed "Tony Dungy Day" in Michigan to honor the Colts head coach who just won a Super Bowl. Dungy, who grew up in Jackson, Michigan, is the first black coach to win a Super Bowl, as well as the first black coach to win a Super Bowl while wearing a sweater vest, a lanyard, and a mock turtleneck.I support Tony Dungy Day. His accomplishment is worth celebrating, there's probably not much else going in Jackson, Michigan, and these things are largely ceremonial ... it's not like the government stops everything else to begin their Dungy worship. Throw a parade, give him a plaque, exchange a few high-fives, and call it a day.
They haven't set a date yet, but I'm already trying to plan how I'll celebrate it personally. In honor of Dungy, I'll probably just walk around that day and thank God for everything that happens ("Dear Lord, thank you for the invention of dog toothpaste, because my dog's breath really used to smell bad," and "God, we humbly thank you that the bathroom at this 7-11 was reasonably clean"), and watch a rerun of Will and Grace with my middle finger pointed at the screen.

Tony Dungy deserves this honor because of the content of his character which is to inspire his players to play hard and be a league of ordinary gentlemen. Holy Janelle "Penny" Commisiong Batman.
You, "mjd"...whoever you really are, have got to rank as one of the most classless, disrespectful excuses for a fellow human being on this earth for what you just wrote about Tony Dungy.
To go off on your faith-bashing, feeble attempt at 'humor' is one of the most pathetic postings I have ever had the displeasure of reading on the AOL/NFL Fanhouse blog site.
Tony Dungy (along with Lovie Smith) is one of the most honorable and decent men to have ever been in anyway affiliated with the NFL. I would hope that you (and other who read this) would follow the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Dungy and read the real story about this man, his past and his beliefs and priorities in life. (...paying particular attention to the lower portion of "Coaching tree and philosophy" and all of the section titled "Personal".)
Apparently you seem to think it's 'funny' that he openly and publicly expressed his thanks to God for the team's success from the post-game podium Sunday night (as did the team's owner just prior to Tony's words).
Having a rough life yourself, "mjd"? Did your issue of this past year's Swimsuit edition of "S.I." get wet on your front porch? Maybe your life is all peachy keen and you didn't have to experience the death of a mother (2001), father (2004) and a son (2005) like Mr. Dungy did and religion has no place in your life. But to make a mockery of someone else because they do have faith in a higher being is simply pathetic.
I will also be writing a letter to AOL and the NFL voicing my extreme distaste for the content of your so called 'blog' here (and yes... I've gone to your own website and find the content there 'flavored' with certain 'spices' you seem to enjoy, but then again you have the freedom of speech just as anyone else does, just like myself, and I will exercise it.)
Oh, and your closing line ending with "...middle finger pointed at the screen" shows real 'humor' and class, also, "mjd". Congratulations.
Well, Charlie sure put mjd in his place.
I hear mjd is so upset he is getting spanked by a pair of strippers as we speak.
My SI Swimsuit Edition did get wet, but it wasn't on my front porch.
Who is the idiot who wrote this piece? Someone in your office obviously gave you the wrong assignment!! The headline got me here but you are a true KNUCKLEHEAD! Tony desreves more than this honor. He is what is RIGHT with the world today. Too bad there aren't more people like him or do you have to win a Super Bowl to read or hear about them?
Hey mjd-Congratulations! You qualify in supporting my theory that some people should never reproduce.
Your article is truly a sad reflection of who you "are" as a person. Life is not about putting down other people. As you consider the adage: "It's not whether you win or lose - it's how you play the game." - I'm thinking - in the game of LIFE -- your "game" is played by putting down other people. If anyone is keeping score -- that would make you a loser. How sad is that?! You don't have to be a loser - you can choose to build up - rather than tear down your fellow man.
All that is good about this world - is found in people of character and dignity such as Coach Dungy -
who would be the first to respect your life-style --
something that you cannot do in return.
One thing people like Tony Dungy understand --
Life is not about our "self" -- it is about
all that we can do for others and working towards
making this world a better place.
Being thankful to our Creator --
and living that life of gratitude --daily --
makes this world a better place.
Mocking our Creator -- and His Life that He has
give to you -- only takes away from the one
life you have to live.
God has blessed you with the ability to write -- why not write words of edification -- rather than words that hurt others? Choose - to be a winner.
Trust me - it will make you a grateful man.
MJD, as much as I love your writing, your commenters are even more entertaining. Here's a direct quote from reverend Billie:
"Life is not about putting down other people."
"That would make you a loser. You don't have to be a loser."
Seriously, MJD- how are you going to compete with that?!
